FreeBSD Metalheads

One of my local favorite hard-rock bands (Indonesia). Disbanded though:

Another one of my favorites, this one is still active (thrash/death metal):

From (in my personal opinion) one of the most important albums ever in Indonesia, which pushed metal culture, especially Death Metal, to the mainstream audience. As far as I know, most bands in this compilation are not in the scene anymore.

I love them all, especially the second one by Edane, and the last one of the list, the one that the forum considers one too many videos in a post (Hellgods is the group). What a good way of starting the day, listening to all this great music that I didn't know. It's also sunny in Barcelona, which is not so common lately.

Some very recent releases.

My first introduction to ToN was Black Sabbath, a cover of... well, Black Sabbath (I know, shocker!)... from the Nativity in Black tribute album. The first album I bought was Slow, Deep and Hard. And I fell in love with the band. They have such a unique sound they could be in a gothic/doom metal category of their own. Once I was listening to some tracks and I heard something that sounded very much like them and I said Aha! Finally, a band that sounds like ToN... and it turned out to be one of Peter Steele's former bands, Carnivore or Fallout, I don't remember. Hehe.
They have lyrics that range from pathos to hilarious and so many great songs:
Love You To Death
In Praise Of Bacchus
Anesthesia
Some Stupid Tomorrow
Christian Woman
Everyone I Love Is Dead
Everything Dies
Life is Killing Me
The Dream Is Dead
Green Man
Burnt Flowers Fallen
and so many more.

Rest in peace, Green Man!

I came to know this band because they remixed an EP by Morbid Angel. There are lot of cool underground bands in the neo-folk/martial/industrial style, but some of the later ones took themselves too seriously and Laibach retained the plausible deniability to continue playing with the totalitarian aesthetics with full impunity. They were also a bit self-deprecating so they didn't lose any sense of humour.

I take notes of all you guys' recommendations and listen to them. I love discovering new groups. I didn't know Carnivore, Fallout, or Laibach. I had no idea that there exists a subgenre of metal that boasts totalitarian aesthetics humorously, which I think is hilarious.

This is my recommendation: Diablo Swing Orchesta. They play a very heterodox kind of music with metal elements (they resemble Therion a little, but they are much more idiosyncratic). I just like them.
