Agreed.Chasing Linux upstream with shims and re-writing dependencies isn’t exactly productive either.

It is certainly the closest we have (and am a big fan) but I don't believe it is standardized by POSIX.Is X.org not a candidate?
Geany.what is the best IDE for freebsd? i would like something like microsoft visual studio, but to create programs for freebsd on freebsd, and of course with a graphical interface
It's a holywar topic but I prefer vscode mentioned above![]()
VSCode works like a charm and as far as I know, it does for quite a while now.Good to have VSCode on FreeBSD, I like it even though I try to no use it, but it is pretty darn good! ?
Just out of curiosity I was convinced that FreeBSD couldn't run electron app, did I miss anything?
If you work on opensource projects you can get a license for free as well.Only downside on JetBrains is the pricing. If you're student you can get it for free, but else you have to pay, quite a lot in my opinion (doesn't mean the price isn't justified, just a lot)
It can run it just fine, however AFAIK, it's a pain in the neck to correctly port npm/electron apps due to its complexity and networking requirements during setup.I was convinced that FreeBSD couldn't run electron app

To be fair, that's only in the 10 minutes or so it takes to come up, and when it's doing something. It goes down to 50% or so when idle.Yes, vscode remote processes ('node') do seem to be very good at using 100% CPU and a fair few gigs of RAM.
