FreeBSD and GeForce RTX 3060 - a fickle thing?

Did an upgrade for this old junk and put a Gainward GeForce RTX 3060 Ghost in it replacing the old Quadro.

This happened:

1. Xorg crashed on 15-Release latest logging kernel page fault
2. Reverting to 14.4 all was fine - same driver number as for 15 (595.84)
3. Deciding to try 15 again - same result- kernel page fault (all installs are handbook)
4. Once again reverting to 14.4 and after running xorg shutdown screen is garbled - and TTYs - boot is fine
5. Reinstalling 14.4 once more to make sure - still garbled TTYs and all console after running xorg

A fickle thing?

Read tingo's short thread about similar but not exactly the same.

Anyone with similar and some tips?

Which 15-RELEASE? 15.0-RELEASE? Or 15.1-RELEASE?

This question is the prerequisite to answer.

If 15.1 and you're using graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod, have you rebuilt at least graphics/drm-*-kmod, graphics/nvidia-drm-*-kmod ("*" would be 61 for 14.*, 66 for 15.0 and 612 for 15.1 and later by default) via ports using 100% in sync /usr/src with running kernel as I've repeatedly, repeatedly and repeatedly commented here and there in this forums?

Until admins of kmod builders addresses the regression that NVIDIA-related kmod ports other than x11/nvidia-kmod are NOT built on kmod repo or 15.0 EoLs and 15.1 becomes the oldest supported minor release of 15.*, the above is mandatory.

14.5 will be released soon. And this story will continue with 14.4 packages vs 14.5 kmods, unfortunately. Although I don't think LinuxKPI changed much on 14.

All versions were the same when I did pkg info | grep nvidia. Since I follow the handbook there was no number on the drm. Simply nvidia-drm-kmod.

Exactly. Hope bapt@ can take time to look into (seemingly quite busy for pkg works). I think he is the key person.

Unfortunate fact, but LinuxK"P"I should be considered as LinuxK"B"I for pre-built pkgs, thus, bunary data formats that are used for parameters or return values strictly matter. And this often happenes on LinuxKPI.

Fortunately, K"P"I breaking updates becomes much fewer comparing with early days LinuxKPI was introduced. So in most cases, building via ports locally using 100% in-sync /usr/src/sys for running kernel helps.
(Of course, there are some exceptions.)

Note that default for 15.1-RELEASE is 612.

I think pkg attempt to remove graphics/drm-61-kmod and graphics/nvidia-drm-61-kmod (for 14.x) and install graphics/drm-612-kmod and graphics/nvidia-drm-612-kmod instead, but as I've already noted many times, currently pkg for graphics/nvidia-drm-612-kmod on 15.* is built for 15.0-RELEASE and doesn't work for 15.1-RELEASE.

May I ask you why you don't search this forums? There should be many answers by me and others (multiple variations of keywords should be tried, though, as there's no forced "standards"). If your issue doesn't even after reading, understanding and trying, you would know what is different with others and describe it at the first place and make answers better and more precise.
