The third of the Release Candidates for the FreeBSD-8.0 release cycle is now available. ISO images for Tier-1 architectures and a memory stick image for amd64/i386 are now available on most of the FreeBSD mirror sites.

Note: it shows up in uname/motd as FreeBSD 8.0-PRERELEASE, not RC3.

(Ah, quite right .. I track -STABLE, which is why)

you have probably used RELENG_8 (stable/8 in terms of svn) to update your source tree, whereas if you really want 8.0-RC3, you have to use RELENG_8_0 (i.e. stable/8.0).
