FreeBSD 15 Intel AC 8265 fails to load firmware

Hello! I just bought a used Lenovo ThinkPad T470 laptop based on chatGPTs suggestion to have a laptop fully supported by FreeBSD 15.

I have managed to everything working, but the AC 8265 wireless gets only about 2,3 MB/s speed. It is connected
to 5G wireless and my other laptop with Fedora 43 gets 8 MB/s. The following is probably the reason for FreeBSDs slower speed:

# dmesg | grep iwm

reveals that the firmware could not be loaded:

iwm0: <Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless AC 8265> mem 0xec000000-0xec001fff at device 0.0 on pci2
iwm8265fw: could not load firmware image, error 8
iwm0: hw rev 0x230, fw ver 22.361476.0, address 00:28:f8:b0:c3:f4

The "error 8" is not exactly helpful. Is there any way to get AC 8265 work faster? Thanks!

It is not the reason why it is slower. If you scroll down in dmesg ( or better look in /var/run/dmesg.boot ) you can probably find that firmware is loaded actually at later time. Reason is that iwm driver has no support for faster than g mode. For this particular card you can use wifibox package to remedy the issuand get ac mode speed. i had this card in my t480 and simplest was to swap it to newer intel ax 210 and use iwx new driver
