Solved freeBSD 13 (virtual machine): X won't start

Just enter the command cvt 1680 1050 and you'll see. Your system is as good as mine for this purpose, maybe better.

well, thanks.
Here there is the command and the ouptut:
salvo@freeBSD:~ $ cvt 1680 1050 # 1680x1050 59.95 Hz (CVT 1.76MA) hsync: 65.29 kHz; pclk: 146.25 MHz Modeline "1680x1050_60.00" 146.25 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync

It is good that there are different ways to do the same things.

The solutions we found here should be put in an updated guide on installing a desktop (Gnome, KDE, XFCE) on FreeBSD 13 and in particular also in Parallels virtual machines, in which FBSD runs very well (apart from Gnome's aforementioned instability) and with considerable speed.
I'll suggest it in the Parallels forum.

yeah, I was about to suggest that you look for the appropriate value in the .conf file, and edit just that value. It can be tough to stop yourself from "editing just a bit more since you have the .conf file open".
