First person shooters

Indeed, ran make in the /usr/ports/games/suyimazu directory and chose mesa-demos. And now the linuxulator isn't see through anymore so they both work. Cool. Thanks friend!

Just wondering if you know why linux-steam-utils is now doing this?

I was so happy it was working. But then steam updated and told me this. I did make deinatall and tried with pkg install. Then did pkg delete and also rm -rf .steam in my user home. And then installed with make again...but I keep getting the same message no matter what. Is it one or the other when it comes to Steam? Either linux Steam or Win Steam?

EDIT: I just installed linux-steam-utils on another system and it gives the same error. Maybe there's just something wrong with the latest steam version. It's not working on either system. I could try on a third system just to be sure. But it's not working on both systems.

EDIT2: I've tried on 3 systems now and have the same error. I guess it's broken.

Still broken. I got this message after upgrading linux-steam-utils. Same message as before.

Apparently I just can't get this right. I've got another error. First, my "ruby -v"output.

Code:
ruby 3.1.4p223 (2023-03-30 revision 957bb7cb81) [amd64-freebsd13]

Next the error,

Code:
/!\ ERRORS /!\

Unknown USES=ruby

*** Error code 1

Stop.
make: stopped in /usr/ports/games/linux-steam-utils

You need USES=ruby30 (or USES=ruby31), not USES=ruby in your Makefile. Update the Makefile, run make clean, then make...

I'm pretty sure I'm doing this wrong. I copied the full contents of the git to my /usr/ports/games/linux-steam-utils directory and tried to run make install.

Code:
gmake[3]: *** [Makefile:439: aclocal.m4] Error 127
gmake[3]: Leaving directory '/usr/ports/games/linux-steam-utils/accessibility/accerciser/work/accerciser-3.38.0'
===> Compilation failed unexpectedly.
Try to set MAKE_JOBS_UNSAFE=yes and rebuild before reporting the failure to
the maintainer.

I'd have copied just the port into the existing tree... and used the MAKE_JOBS_UNSAFE=yes flag...

Oh, and I would also have used ZFS snapshots strategically... :p Sometimes, it helps to write out the snapshotting sequences so that you know how to roll 'em back... But I guess I'm making things complicated...

So, this flag should be put in which of the make files? I am sorry. I honestly don't know how to use this flag properly.

First, run make clean.

And, you use the flag like this:
Code:
/usr/ports/games/linux-steam-utils # make MAKE_JOBS_UNSAFE=yes
...
output
...
/usr/ports/games/linux-steam-utils # make install

You can see make(1) for more details on what flags make takes.

Frankly, I recommend first running make clean, followed by make. If that results in the suggestion to set the MAKE_JOBS_UNSAFE=yes flag, then run make clean yet again, followed by make MAKE_JOBS_UNSAFE=yes.

Am I making sense? (no pun intended) :p

Yes, perfect sense. I've seen this message with other ports as well. I just didn't know how to properly use this flag. Thanks so much. I guess I could have checked the man pages. I've really got to start remembering to rtfm. 😃

Yeah...that didn't work. hahaha It game an error about needing automake. I got that installed. Gave me errors for make again. I did the flag. More errors. I just don't think it's meant to be. lol I'm going to move on from this for a while. :D I'm may just be too new to FreeBSD to understand what I'm doing wrong. Most likely user error. I'll get it eventually.

Probably version conflict between ports and packages - which is exactly why I go with ports every time, and I preach about not mixing ports and packages. Yeah, that means more time up front compiling the stuff, but then you have the flexibility to play with options and not worry about version conflict.

Honestly, I wasn't aware of the ports vs packages until recently. I may move to just using ports in the future if I can avoid problems on my systems.
