Epson L3350 - How Do You Bonjour It?

I have got a new Espson L3350 to replace an old L3150. I seemed to have got the old one running a few years ago, but I cannot remember how.

The instructions are next to useless.

Anyway, I cannot setup the new L3350 with wifi. If I can get an IP address, then I can go to the web interface for the device and set it up. How do I do that? Do I bonjour it and if so, how?

I can actually get the printer working by plugging the USB cable into an old windows box and installing drivers and lots of unnecessary software, and even print something out. But It does not have an IP address so I cannot access the web interface.

I did manage to get a WPS pin code from the printer, but my access point (EnGenius EWS357APv3) does not have a WPS button.

Any ideas?

some printers can create a hotspot and you connect to the hotspot and tell the printer what other wifi network to join. then it gets an ip from your router

Interesting, when I bought my Canon MegaTank I also looked at the Epson EcoTanks. They both screw us over on the "maintenance cartridges" but the Epson had a better system for the ink heads rather than heating to high temperatures. What made me go for the Canon is precisely because it had a little LCD screen so I could attach it to the network since neither have Ethernet ports.

Looking into it, you have 2 other approaches:
  • WPS - no good with your router
  • Installer Software - When you USB installed it on an old Windows machine, there should be config tool in the bundle
  • Phone App - Epson Smart Panel App

I'd use IPP (product page says it's supported)

Yes, on my freebsd laptop I can connect to the hotspot. I get the local IP 192.168.223.12 and the document says that the printer IP is 192.168.223.1.

Seems good so far.

When I try 192.168.223.1:631/ipp/print, either with http or https, I get a zero response.

Did try my phone. It did not find the printer. Hate using the bloody phone. Will possibly try again.

Did not find any config tool on the old windows box, and did search hard. Will look again.

Still trying.

Plugged it into the freebsd box with the usb cable. Can print! but cannot get to the ipp or web panel or whatever. Nothing in cups that gets me there.

Got the app on my android phone. Can connect with the "direct access" and find the printer. Can print! but again cannot get to the ipp or web panel or whatever. All sorts of rubbish in the app, but nothing in the that gets me there.

Plugged it into the old windows box again with the usb cable. Can print! but cannot get to the ipp or web panel or whatever. No config tool in the bundle. An awful lot of windows driver rubbish.

Agreed. Its usually my last resort and often on an old test device with no sim card in.

I think the reason why the phone didn't see the printer is because a button on the printer had to be pressed first to make it "findable". Probably the WPS button.

The PDF handbook is a little useless. For network config it just says download the software or use WPS.

This youtube video (another thing I hate using) actually documents the network config process well using the Windows software.

I forgot the key combination that prints out all the settings—including passwords—on an Epson printer.

There are only three buttons on this model. I have got the combination and printed out the advanced network information:
It says that wire less is off (I know), direct wireless is on, IPP is on and use it through 192.168.223.1:631/ipp/print with either http or https.

Port 631 gives zero length response ans port 80 does not get that far.

start cups after the printer is running, and once the printer found , see if that enables a print dialog from a KDE program [browser... ] to print to it?

I can print from cups if connected with the USB cable. That is not what I want. I do not use KDE. Don't think that makes a difference.

I did get the android working to print, but that was not using my access point, and again, could not access 192.168.223.1 on ports 631 or 80.

The key combinations have changed from those on L3250 to L3350. But I did get the ssid and password for direct access. I can do that. I can access the printer directly, but not through my access point. And I cannot get to the web based config page. I only ever get a zero response.

I have seen that video. I have installed the software on the windows box three times. Pressing that button for seven seconds does not end up with two solid lights. It ends up with both lights flashing together, which (supposedly) indicates an error. And even if it did work (which it doesn't), that video does not show how to input my own ssid, it does not mention the web based config page.
