drm-fbsd13-kmod is gone (in favor of drm-510-kmod)

I've just installed 13.1 i386 and drm=kmod doesn't work. Do I need to install drm-510-kmod in addition?
No, you need to provide details about your problem, preferably in a new thread as it seems quite unrelated here.

edit: Oh, and you also need to upgrade. 13.1 is EOL. It's quite likely this is your actual problem.

Well, I just updated from 13.0 to 13.2 using freebsd-update. and at the second reboot I was dumped to a console, and X refused to start. I hadn't noticed much user stuff updated, so I did pkg update, pkg upgrade, still no X. After searching around I found that I'm certainly outside the 3 month window where packages are built against the old minor version, maybe I'm an edge case. So I built drm-510-kmod from ports, but it refused to install because drm-fbsd13-kmod still had files in the same place, and I had to remove that manually with pkg delete.

X and xfce are all working OK now, but am I being a bit picky if I suggest there is something missing from the upgrade instructions?

This port/package was already removed in September 2022. So I rather think you either didn't upgrade packages in a long time or something went wrong a lot earlier.

The recommended way is to always use the graphics/drm-kmod meta-port, which will select the specific port recommended for the FreeBSD version you're using.

I ran into this in the past, roughly around that change in Sep 2022. While disconcerting, it is a good reason to do updates in text console (not under X) and read the pkg info.
Users of nvidia had similar issues around nvidia-driver, but again, pay attention to pkg install messages.
