Solved DE/WM logoff not working

Hello

Whenever I logoff from XFCE or Icewm, it ends with a blank screen, instead of console.

I'm using 10.1.

Any idea how to remedy this?

The console is still there, just not visible. So it is usually possible to type startx to restart X.

Long-term, use vt(4), which is KMS-aware. Add
Code:
kern.vty=vt
to /boot/loader.conf. It will take effect on the next boot.

Thanks, it works now.

Can you explain what's the rationale behind unable to logoff from DE/WM to console?

The old console, sc(4), did not know how to deal with KMS (kernel mode-switching video drivers). There was no problem until X quit and sc(4) was not aware and did not know how to switch back to text mode. The new vt(4) console does understand KMS, so there is no problem.
