...but if we start to name the classics, then we also have to name André Franquin, Gilbert Shelton, Dik Browne, Smythe, Robert Crumb, Gerhard Seyfried, Morris, Hergé, Silver,...leaving too many unmentioned which had their right place in this list.

Unfortunately, IDK French, but Asterix & Obelix in Serbo-Croatian translation was hilarious, IMHO much better than English one. For example, Getafix (Panoramix) was in our translation named Aspirinix 🤣 Other names were similarly good, but it will take me few paragraphs for each to explain translation, so joke will be lost...

The German translation is funny enough to place the series at the top. I can't directly compare to the French edition due to lack of language skills.

I agree, IMHO Alan Ford is one of the bests comics ever!
When we are talking about translations, Croatian translation of Alan Ford was brilliant, witty and funny, but later (post '90s) Serbian translations/re-editions were simply awful (no wonder considering the [unfortunately English doesn't have strong enough swear words for me to use for this person] publisher of Serbian edition)

Only English translation I know of is TNT Edition TNT Group Alan Ford English Book One

In Italian: "Chi vola vale, chi non vola non vale, chi vale e non vola è un vile"

This needs some explaining: Fact that Grunf has this slogan on his shirt, considering that that all his "inventions" were contraptions failing to work, is a mockery of Italo Balbo, the fascist aviator and friend of Mussolini.
 
Here in Belgium we have a tradition of comic strip. I explain people have an idea, but no budget. To make a movie you need a large budget, so they make a comic strip. "Suske & Wiske" in french "Bob & bobette". "de rode riddder", "le chevalier rouge".

In Türkiye they made few movies about Zagor (plese see #8) on a budget that was enough to buy peanuts for the crew, but not enough to buy them drinks (early '70s). I couldn't understand a single word spoken there, but I was ROFLing the whole time watching, that's how bad (but hilariously bad) they were. It's not B-production - more like Z-production quality, but I do have soft spot for a such trash art. 🤪
Warning: you'll need to roll a few and pour strong drink before watching this 💩
 
When I was in college, I was a big fan of Aa! Megami-Sama! anime and related manga... Bought the 5-episode OVA on DVD, but downloaded everything else.

I think OP might enjoy One Piece, it's cut from the same cloth as Yoko Tsuno... But it's also an adventure series. Dunno how easily it would be available in OP's market

But man, the very title of OP's favorite comic had something VERY different come to my mind: Yokozuna, the top rank in sumo wrestling. And yep, there's a manga/anime title for that, too: Aa! Harimanada! 😂 It's funny, too, but the humor there is VERY heavily Japanese, you kind of have to have some knowledge of Japanese social norms to understand some of the jokes in that anime/manga... 😅
