Other CDE no fonts on 15.0-RELEASE

I've started this thread as a new one since I've noticed this while trying to fix my other problem, but it doesn't seem to be related.

When I read the error log for CDE there are error messages about missing fonts (and I cannot change the font size), I've tried some things that I've found but most solutions are related to Linux.

I was curious if my problem was also present on 14.3-RELEASE so I installed that on my test machine and the fonts problem was fixed and remains fixed when I upgrade to 15.0-RELEASE so I guess there are some fonts not longer installed or I need to do something manually that was done automatically on that previous version?

So if someone with more experience could educate me that would be greatly appreciated

Today I've installed xfce with lightdm from quarterly repository on 14.3, on lightdm there were no text but all squares, i checked if i have any font by running fc-list and it was all empty, i just installed one of the fonts, then they started to appear. Maybe same case? I was using xorg-minimal i guess.

On the machine that works:

pkg info -oa | awk '{print $2}' | sort > /tmp/works

On the machine that doesn't work:

pkg info -oa | awk '{print $2}' | sort > /tmp/doesnt-work

Copy /tmp/doesnt-work to /tmp on the machine it does work on.

Then,

diff /tmp/works /tmp/doesnt-work.

Post the diff output here.

You are likely missing some packages or have packages that interfere on the doesnt-work machine.

post the relevant error messages to enable people to help you.
Sorry, I completely forgot that.
I copied the error message into a text file before I started to go look for solutions, but now completely forgot I did that.

Here are the error messages

Thanks,
At the moment my test machine has the working version of 15.0-RELEASE (upgraded from 14.3-RELEASE) so I'll need to do a complete fresh install of 15.0-RELEASE and when it's done I'll post the diff output here.

Two other things you might want to test. First:

fc-list | sort > working # on the working machine

fc-list | sort > not-working # on the broken machine

Copy one file to the other machine and run diff against them.

Next:

Run xfontsel on both machines. See if the dt foundry is available. Don't worry about the application and dtinfo families. Focus on the "interface system" and "interface user" font families. As you select font attributes you should be able to narrow down various fonts. For this exercise we use xfontsel to find out if we can see the CDE fonts. Normally one would use xfontsel to play around with different font selections in order to define them in various X resources, such as Xterm, CDE and other application resources.

For example I share my .Xdefaults (can also be called .Xresources) file between all my laptops. Each laptop has a different display resolution. In addition I use them hooked up to 24" monitors when working at my desk. The fonts don't normally adjust so I have to use the following in my .Xresources to adjust XTerm fonts based upon the size of the monitor the X server detects. It took a little playing around to find the fonts most pleasing to my eyes on the various laptop displays and external monitors. See below.

Code:
#define KQ_FONT VARIABLE
#if defined(KQ_FONT) && KQ_FONT == VARIABLE

I think the only difference in manually (with PKG) installed packages is that I've installed the Linux compatibility on the working system.

Also, I think this is a problem caused by the memstick installer version.

I installed 15.0-RELEASE using the dvd1 installer ISO and then there was no fonts problem, so I flashed the memstick image and tried installing with that one, and that gives the fonts problem.

So problem solved? just making a mental note not to use the memstick installer

I didn't install the pragmata and monolisa fonts on the test machine so I guess you can ignore those (I don't remember fonts working with them installed anyway)

comparing the xfontsel results for the foundry fonts shows that the not working system only has dt and misc listed as available fonts while the working system has a lot more:
Code:
adobe
arabic
b&h
bitstream
daewoo
dec
dt
ibm
isas
jis
misc
mutter
schumacher
sony
sun
XFree86

What I also notice is that on the working machine the dt fonts are displayed a chinese? style font, while on the not working system it looks like our normal alphabeth but unsharp (like it as printed by an old dot-matrix printer).

Thanks for the tip on the .Xresources file I'll look into that some more during the weekend when I have some more time.

Why do you have fonts in /home?

Hmmm. A lot of missing fonts.

Code:
adobe
arabic
b&h
bitstream
daewoo
dec
dt
ibm
isas
jis
misc
mutter
schumacher
sony
sun
XFree86

There's some missing packages or files belonging to packages have been removed. This is clearly a local problem.

What I also notice is that on the working machine the dt fonts are displayed a chinese? style font, while on the not working system it looks like our normal alphabeth but unsharp (like it as printed by an old dot-matrix printer).

What did I say about the application and dtinfo font families? Please reread my comments.

Thanks for the tip on the .Xresources file I'll look into that some more during the weekend when I have some more time.
