Solved Can log into Xfce but login loop with Cinnamon

Well, I'm using lightdm as my login screen, my user account is a member of the video group, and dbus in enabled in rc.conf. Also, I can log into Xfce using my user account without any problems, but for some reason I can only log into Cinnamon as root. Also, if I try to login to Cinnamon as the user, then I get stuck in the login loop, I briefly see a black screen, and then I'm back at the login screen. However, again, this doesn't happen with Xfce, only with Cinnamon. Very strange...

Also, /home/user is owned by my user account, but /home is owned by root. it doesn't seem reasonable to give my regular user ownership of /home, but it seems like I must have a permissions issue somewhere within my installation of Freebsd.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Somehow I got it to work again, but I'm not exactly sure how. I simply restored some of my system directories from a backup I made about a month ago using rsync (the greatest piece of software every created primates with opposable thumbs) and now I can log into Cinnamon again. I think that I may have made a mistake with Xprofile a few weeks back, but I'm not sure if that was the actual culprit or not. Anyway, solved I guess.
