I have a question for the old timers in the community. The greybeards. Why wasn’t there just an update(1) command back in the days. I searched man pages and these are the results
What's wrong with make , or make install , works all times.
Had many linux distros dying. And they had no cure.
But make install kernel world, saved all my days. Even in the most dark days. Works always anywhere. I love it. I'm addicted to it.
Someything reliable, you can count on it.
I’m just wondering if this new build concept is rigorous in its implementation. Some of the architecture at base system go back to FreeBSD 6.0 or older.
Based on the search results above how robust will pkgbase be.
Or is it just a surface level wrapper that will cause more bugs at base system
There is some fundamental thing i worry about,
There are 3 levels,
- Kernel , ie /boot : make install kernal
- Base/world , /bin/ls : make install world
- Packages , /usr/local/bin/bash : pkg update
