Autoremove not working

I have a fresh installation of FreeBSD-15.0 and am trying to run command pkg autoremove -y.
My PC hangs and nothing happens. I have had to break this with ctr-c after about 10 hours.

Perhaps he has zillion of packages and just needs to wait until pkg counts them up.
Even on a heavily package loaded machine, 10 hours would be quite excessive. I'm more thinking along the lines of a broken disk, causing constant read failures and repeated retries.

Which version exactly?: uname -aKU

Which pkg version?: pkg -v

Try with debug information enabled: pkg -d autoremove -y

Alright, at least there's nothing running any more. Are there any error messages in /var/log/messages? Especially READ_DMA or timeouts related to disk access?

Agreed, nothing serious in there. The only other thing I can think off is that your package database might be corrupt. Right after that want to get an advisory lock on a database debug message it should be reading the package database, that never seems to finish on your system. Even the Checking integrity message isn't printed.

This is what it should look like:
Code:
# pkg -d autoremove
DBG(1)[44160]> (db) want to get an advisory lock on a database
Checking integrity...DBG(1)[44160]> (jobs) check integrity for 0 items added
 done (0 conflicting)
Nothing to do.
DBG(1)[44160]> (db) release an advisory lock on a database

/var/backups/ should contain a couple of backups of the database (pkg.sql.xz*). A daily periodic(8) job creates them.

Strange, now I have got:

# pkg -d autoremove
DBG(1)[7931]> (db) want to get an advisory lock on a database
DBG(1)[7931]> (db) found stale pid 4661 in lock database, my pid is: 7931
DBG(1)[7931]> (db) no concurrent processes found, cleanup the lock
DBG(1)[7931]> (db) want to get an advisory lock on a database

..and hangs
