On this forum I have seen interest in support for the AR9271 USB NIC (link) so with my team we would like to extend the capabilities of the ath(4) driver to include support for the AR9271 USB WiFi adapter. We are currently developing this under this fork:

In addition, we have prepared a preliminary sketch of the architecture we plan to implement to support this device:
We have discussed some details of our changes with Adrian Chadd and Rui Paulo, but we are relatively new to FreeBSD development, so any comments or suggestions on this idea are welcome. Once our driver has reached an appropriate level of usability and stability, we will prepare a pull request with all the changes.
