applications icon

I suppose that it will be heard somewhat stupid but i can't figure out how to do it. I install Netbeans for example or dia from ports but i have to invoke them from shell on gnome instead to be on the Application's menu. The basic problem is where can i find their icons to put on that menu?

Actually dia appears on the Application menu correctly, the problem is with the netbeans icon and wireshark.

If you're using xfce you can edit the menu and icons at /usr/local/share/applications.

And if you have an icon theme installed check /usr/local/share/icons for some "generic" icons.

Dia will add an icon to the menu. There's no need to edit anything for it. You may need to log out and back in before it shows up though.

For the others you will need to add a .desktop file to /usr/local/share/applications (for all users) or ~/.local/share/applications (for a specific user).
