Just today I tried upgrading a VM which was still running 14.1-RELEASE to 15.0-RELEASE using directions from the lovely Handbook. Upon reboot, the kernel panics. I initially thought I simply made a mistake somewhere, but after failing to get the OS running again using previous boot environments, I tried a fresh install. When attempting to install 15.0-RELEASE into a gen 2 Hyper-V VM the same panic occurs.
I also tested the .VHD format VM image for 15.0-RELEASE, which does run successfully in a gen 1 Hyper-V VM.
Is there any known solution for this, or would I best stick with 14.3-RELEASE for now?
