14.3 dmesg

Upgraded one machine to 14.3, and all seems well, except dmesg includes:

I only upgraded a VM from 14.2 to 14.3 so far, dmesg works as usual, no error reported yet, is it possible the issue is on your side only ?
It would probably help to have the entire log specifically the part that comes just before that said error message.

I don't think the OP is saying "a problem with dmesg" but rather "when I'm booted into 14.3 dmesg shows the following kernel error code"

Totally agree with you, that is the reason why I asked for the rest of the log, sorry if it wasn't clear enough, the first part of my message is a bit misleading indeed.

"when I'm booted into 14.3 dmesg shows the following kernel error code"
Yes.

Well, judging by the most recent amd64: print limited EFIRT fault messages on first fault, not second - commit dated: Apr 16, 2025, it seems they have upped the ante: that is reporting it immediately at the first occurrence.

Unless the dmesg fatal trap printing is somehow impairing your current set up, I personally would wait a few days before posting. Wait until the official announcement of 14.3-RELEASE has been made and bring your system up to date where appropriate and perhaps do some further exploring.

Furthermore, you could also test if this printing shows up consistantly, also in a minimal configured setting, single user mode comes to mind. Especially not loading i915kms and such, the outcome may be either:
  • does not make any difference and the message still appears in exactly the same manner
  • does make a difference and the message differs
Especially when the latter occurs that might indicate that this is linked to the drm driver. What further comes to mind (from a non-expert point of view) is that, somewhat worst case, is that this is somehow BIOS/firmware related, and therefore may be out of reach or influence of FreeBSD. However, let's take the positive view that this can all be solved relatively easily and quickly :)

The message is not impairing my setup. It is merely disconcerting.

Have not tried single user yet. Might take a couple of days.

Don't use i915 or drm on this machine.

It is a headless machine, I can access by ssh or KVM.

18 hours of downloading and waiting for it to install and then this: Fatal trap 12! fault virtual address = 0xffffffff485e99af
fault code =supervisor write data, page not present

Could this be a version 14.3 problem? Or is it a newbie problem?

Does the system crash? If it does, try with FreeBSD 14.2 or with a snapshot of 15.0-CURRENT. If you want to report a kernel panic, include all the information you can get, including the stack trace. Describe your hardware too. This forum thread is about "EFI RT page fault" messages which don't cause crashes. If yours is a real crash, create a new forum thread for it.
