    About FreeBSD license and philosophy.

I want to know why the FreeBSD operating system is not under a copyleft license, because this allows to make the software non libre( free as freedom ), so this is not good at matter of ethics. ( Correct me if I write bad english, I'm not an advanced english speaker because I speak spanish ).

    Hypothetical licensing question

Let's say I'm about to develop some software. It's free and open source. However I'd like to make money on Windows/OSX users, eg. non open source OS users. In this scheme-of-things, those users should purchase a license. I would absolutely avoid splitting the software in variants, eg. OSS one...

    Open/Free Software Licensing

Well, I noticed now and again that references to licensing and FreeBSD, GPL, OSI et al. rear their head from time to time. Whilst not pertaining directly FreeBSD license I found this "interesting" video from CERN. It regards their efforts to promote Free/Open Software. For those interested in...

    Are GNU licenses annoying?

Ok. So, what do you think about viral copyleft licenses, such as GPL or LGPL? My opinion is, that I don't like them. Currently I'd like it if all interesting software that is licensed with those licenses could be re-licensed or rewritten with a real free license, like BSD, MIT, zlib or WTFPL...

    Handbook license?

    FreeBSD/Linux License Differences Concerning ZFS

Hello, I have been reading an article about ZFS saying that GNU license is not compatible with the ZFS' one, contrary to FreeBSD's license. Could someone involved briefly explain the license differences enabling/disabling inclusion of ZFS? I am just curious. Thank you in advance, Lubos

    Non-GPL Land

One of the big things that draws me to FreeBSD is the GPLless goal/nature of it. I think there should be some sort of a GPLless mailing list to talk about what needs to be rewritten under a BSD license, and who is doing what. Right now, it seems there is no good place to talk with others about...

I want to create a MUD driven by a GUI with MySQL as the backend for location details, user information etc. Eventually with some scripting support so you can design your own "dungeons" and non player characters etc. If I do proceed with MySQL, I'm just concerned that I might not be able to...

    FreeBSD wiki licensing advice

I'm very close to releasing a guide, including a package of scripts that are used in that guide, on how to install, backup and restore a ZFS based FreeBSD 8.2 system with reliability as a key emphasis. The original install is heavily based off of this article (FreeBSD wiki). My plan is to...
