Something wrong with 9.0 RC Sparc64 iso?

I am attempting to boot the FreeBSD-9.0-RELEASE-sparc64-bootonly.iso from the CDROM drive on a Sun Ultra 5. The loader menu comes up but when I attempt to boot the kernel the Ultra 5 system immediately generates the "Fast data access MMU miss" error and returns to the OBP ok> prompt. Might...

    Install 9.0 release via PXE

In my case passing the 'bigraw' option instead of the 'raw' option to memdisk does not seem make any difference... with both options I get the same stop that rhlampe posted above. Is there perhaps some option that needs be entered at the loader command line?

    FreeBSD and linux emulator problem

I also had trouble with the linux_dist-gentoo-stage3 environment's lack of a /dev. Thanks again to Alexander for the following tip: mount -t devfs /nonexistent /usr/local/gentoo-stage3/dev

    FreeBSD and linux emulator problem

Okay the author of the http://www.leidinger.net/blog/2010/09/28/the-freebsd-linuxulator-explained-for-users/ article was nice enough to respond to my question. Thanks Alexander!

    FreeBSD and linux emulator problem

I'm not quite sure what a minimal install is wblock but I installed this system from 8.2 RELEASE. A couple of days ago I updated sources to 8-STABLE and installed a new world with the sequence described in http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/makeworld.html (still shocked...

    FreeBSD and linux emulator problem

I decided to utilize linux_dist-gentoo-stage3 after I read the "Constraints regarding chroot into /compat/linux" section of http://www.leidinger.net/blog/2010/09/28/the-freebsd-linuxulator-explained-for-users/ and determined that I actually need to chroot into the linux environment for what I...

    FreeBSD and linux emulator problem

Okay... after having followed SIFE's very excellent instructions above I am pretty sure that I have now managed to get linux_dist-gentoo-stage3 correctly installed on my now-freshly-updated-to-8-STABLE installation. I'm a bit confused about how to use linprocfs and linsysfs though. The man...

    FreeBSD and linux emulator problem

Out of technical curiosity why do the make commands need to be executed one at a time in this case?

    Screen buffer / Scroll Lock

The function to toggle into the screen buffer with the Scroll Lock key does not appear to be working on my 8.2-RELEASE system. What configuration file do I need to examine to figure out why not? Might this possibly have something to do with the hardware configuration of the machine (a laptop...

    trouble installing net/samba35

Thanks for the input cyberpict... Your post gave me some ideas which resulted in my doing the following: 1. I went into the cvs supfile and enabled both src/usrbin and src/usrsbin. Then I ran csup which updated among other things the system's port collections. 2. I then checked net/samba35's...

    trouble installing net/samba35

Thanks for the clarification NicoFR. I found what I think to be the krb5 section that you referenced in /usr/ports/net/samba35/Makefile at line 324. Given your suggestions I decided to try # setenv KRB5_HOME /usr/local (since line 324 already refers to the /lib subdirectory) before trying to...

    trouble installing net/samba35

Okay I am having trouble installing net/samba35 to my 8.2-RELEASE system also. The error in my case is a bit different: libsmb/clispnego.c: In function ‘spnego_gen_negTokenTarg’: libsmb/clispnego.c:391: error: implicit declaration of function ‘cli_krb5_get_ticket’ Although I guess the...

    Ruby ports confused

Okay so I've already installed lang/ruby19 on my 8.2-RELEASE system. Now I want to install sysutils/fusefs-kmod for which the make process appears to ignore the existing lang/ruby19 installation and require lang/ruby18. Can I get make to recognize the existing lang/ruby19 installation somehow...

    Samba keeps returning errors

Yeah... I saw samba34 generating and logging the same errors in /var/log/samba34/log.smbd and found the same suggestion for editing smb ports = 139 into smb.conf (http://www.mail-archive.com/samba@lists.samba.org/msg90259.html). Although I still don't quite understand what causes samba34 to log...

    package: cache, dependencies and conflicts

When a user executes the make command in a package's ports directory s/he is instructing the system to build that package from source, right? So how can a user instruct make to build the package with the versions of dependencies that are already installed rather than (what appears to be) make's...

Just out of curiosity what references to the .gz and .bz2 files make it necessary to keep them in /usr/ports/distfiles after the packages are installed?

    External USB hard disk disappears

Okay I am having trouble getting my 8.1-release system to operate any external USB devices also. So far I can tell from camcontrol and usbconfig commands the system recognizes that the USB hardware is present but when I attempt to access the USB media the system reports back umass AutoSense...
