    SAMBA share group permissions

Hi all, Since last week, something weird is happening in my Samba shares. I have a server running FreeBSD 9.1 and Samba binding to a LDAP server to authenticate users. Every user which is associated to two or more groups is getting permission issues to access the share. Example: The user...

    Zpool add mistake

Yes, you are right. I'm using Linux for a short time because of specific reasons. I just forgot this is a BSD forum and not a ZFS forum. Thanks

    Zpool add mistake

Well, well.... Found the problem.... I made this restart to install a 10Gb card to get higher throughputs on this backup operation. Because of that, the symlinks has changed from pci-0000:05:00.0-scsi to pci-0000:07:00.0-scsi. I though when referencing to disks by path, doesn't matter how many...

    Zpool add mistake

Hi guys, Regarding the first post, I did a restart on the server today. After this restart I got this: [root@ZBoox003LX mdotti]# zpool status pool: Storage state: UNAVAIL status: One or more devices could not be used because the label is missing or invalid. There are insufficient...

    Zpool add mistake

Hi Guys, I really appreciate the information you guys are inserting here. For sure, I'll consider all of this in my next builds. I use ZFS since 2009 and I don't know why, I've never known about the recommendation to not create vdevs with more than 10 disks. I have to say that the space to me...

    Zpool add mistake

Hi Sebulon, Thanks for the advise. Actually, In these cases (regarding 24 disks) I use to create two raidz pools of 12 disks and put then together. So I get one disk redundancy for each 12 disks. Don't you think this is a good idea ? Thanks, Danilo

All right! I'm sure it's not a pleasant experience... ;) Thanks a lot for clarifying me. Best.

    Zpool add mistake

Hi Phoenix, Thanks for the replay. I was afraid someone would tell me this. Actually, the only warning I remember, was a partition issue. Because one disk was part of a old Pool. Any way, I'll try to find out some away to backup the files to restart the Pool from Scratch. Thanks again, Danilo

    Zpool add mistake

Hi all, I'm running in a problem which is really scaring me. The fact is, I have a storage configured as RAIDZ with 12 x 3TB disks in a 24 bays supermicro chassis.. I was asked to upgrade this server adding more 12 X 3TB disks and then, doubling the capacity. But, when I executed the zpool...

Does the FreeBSD support ServeRAID M5110 (LSI SAS2208 ROC)

Which version of FreeBSD are you trying? Actually, my solution was to replace this controller for an LSI as I was really needing to get the server working ASAP. Tried everything I could but no success. Maybe the last version should work.

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

This is awesome! And it's really good to know about this switch. Thanks for the post. So, what's the purpose of this 10 Gb network? File sharing? If so, what kind of protocol you are going to use?

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

Hi all, FYI, I did some performance tests today using my 10 Gb cards with iperf. Running the iperf server on the server side and the iperf client in a MacPro. I reached around 620 MB/s in a point-to-point connection. I really would love to get this speed copying files...

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

Hi Florian, I have read a little about that, and this sounds really interesting. As soon as I get the environment for tests, I'll do it. Thanks for the tip!

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

Hi @phoenix, Thanks for the reply. This is exactly the answer I'm expecting. I want to be sure about the alternatives. But, I did some tests with 10 Gb cards in these servers before and 100 MB/s peaks was the maximum I could reach copying files through SMB and rsync over SSH. That's why I...

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

Hmm, this sounds interesting. I'll check these topics a.s.a.p. What about 10 Gb? Someone here got high speeds in a point-to-point connection? Thanks

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

Yes, but this won't give me more than a gigabit connection can do.

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

Hi @Crest, This is really fast! This was over SMB? On my previous tests with 10 Gb cards, I could reach something like 300 MB/s with four simultaneous copies from four different points. But my issue is about how to do get higher throughput from one client only, for instance, to transfer a...

How to get more throughput from/to FreeBSD servers?

Hi all, I'm a ZFS user for more than 4 years and I'm so glad to take advantage of this excellent filesystem on FreeBSD. Since then, I built several servers. Small ones until as big as 60 TB servers and all of them as stable as a rock. But, there is an issue that I never could solve, which is...

    Samba + ZFS Cache

Hi Matt, Thank you for your reply. I really didn't know about the zfs-stat and I really were looking for some tool like that. And comparing the statistics from zfs-stat command with the htop memory usage, I could see that htop really shows me the kernel memory usage too and it seems like...

    Samba + ZFS Cache

Hi all, For a long time, I've noticed that my ZFS file servers running FreeBSD don't use RAM cache when the files are accessed through Samba. As a simple test, I just did a copy of a 10GB folder to the local disk of the client, and monitoring the server with htop, I can't see any RAM memory...
