Below is probably easier to do with bectl/beadmin but still.
1. Install FreeBSD 14 following this guide (that also can be found as a howto in this Forum) but change zroot to zroot14 everywhere
2. Change the path when copying the efi bootloader
cp /boot/loader.efi...
When i powered my pc yesterday i got greeted with these errors (see picture).
Hitting escape (or any key for that matter) will move on to the next freebsd partition scan and at the end it my refind bootloader menu will work just fine and i'm able to boot into freebsd/windows11 just fine...
Hi all!
Just a quick note since I could not find any documentation on this very useful, simple feature. First some context:
* Laptop dualbooted with Linux/Ubuntu (was also Win10, but I removed this recently)
* single SSD storage device
* UEFI BIOS + GPT partitioning
* EFI partition to support...
...very interesting post by Vermaden where there a guide to follow that help to create a freebsd system attached like Virtual disk and booted dualboot windows/freebsd.
I followed all post until need to add new partition zfs with free space inside ada0, I typed :
gpart add -t freebsd-zfs ada0...
I have an old legacy bios computer which has two hard drives, one GPT partitioned and one msdos-partitioned.
How can I add dualboot when FreeBSD 1 is /dev/ada1p1 and FreeBSD 2 is /dev/ada0s1a?
Hi I have FreeBSD 10 currently running, taking up the complete, single hard drive and want to install 14, but be able to revert back to 10 (in case I run into issues building my LAMP web server).
I thought it would be a simple matter to partition the drive (about 30% for v10 and 70% for V14) so...
Hi!
I'm currently trying to install FreeBSD 14.1 on a Thinkpad T14 Gen3 (Intel) with the interactive bsdinstall TUI but have some questions regarding the partitioning step.
My plan is to run FreeBSD alongside Windows 11 on a single SSD using the BIOS to switch between installed EFI...
...would be better adopted and loved if there was a similar alternative that came with freebsd, either as the default bootloader being able to dualboot a standard windows/linux installation, or some mechanism which recognizes the existence of another OS on a user's machine and allows them so...

BLUF: I feel compelled to learn and use *nix, namely FreeBSD. I am trying to install FBSD on a separate partition for a dualboot environment on a 2010 17" MBP, 6,1. I *believe* I have successfully installed the OS, however, I must be missing the mark in terms of boot loader...
I tried to install FreeBSD 14 release again (on a separate partition) on my desktop. I am successfully creating two boot entries in BIOS. FreeBSD, and FreeBSD 2.
But no matter which entry I choose, the system is booting up with the older installation.
I tried to get help of chatgpt but all of...
Introduction:
This is a guide on how to dualboot windows 11 and FreeBSD 14.
I recently received a fantastic laptop that happens to be surprisingly compatible with FreeBSD,
so I highly recommend it, and no, I am not sponsored by MSI;
I have merely fought enough laptops to recognize a keeper when...
I am reading "FreeBSD Mastery: Storage essentials", trying to dualboot windows 11 and FreeBSD 14.0 RELEASE using rEFInd as the boot manager, with an ecrypted zfs root;
So far, I've:
(1) Partitioned my disk like so:
=> 34 2000409197 nda0 GPT (954G)
34 2014 -...
With the release 14.0, I plan to switch to FreeBSD as my main OS.
Unfortunately, some of the programs I use work only on Linux, so I will still have to boot to Linux from time to time.
I am wondering how to structure my storage.
In my notebook, I can place 4 disks in total, 3 SSDs (2 NVMe M.2 +...
My goal was to install FreeBSD with GELI and ZFS alongside of currently installed Windows 10. I am testing it on an Oracle Virtual Box with EFI turned on. I have continued FreeBSD setup up to the Partitioning step, then selected shell and entered the following,
gpart add -t freebsd-swap -s...
I have two installations of freebsd 13.2 on two different disks. Both with MBR & UFS
disk 1: win10/freebsd without bootloader (freebsd)
disk 2: freebsd with bootloader
How could I make disk 2 that has the bootloader, find muy others disk installations and boot from?
Hello.
I can't figure out how-to configure consoles to be equal.
If I write this (to /boot/loader.conf):
# Serial console bootboot_multicons="YES"
boot_serial="YES"
comconsole_speed="115200"
console="comconsole,vidconsole"
, then I got this (in dmesg):
Dual Console: Serial Primary, Video...

I need to keep the existing Kubuntu while adding a new FreeBSD install with Root-on-ZFS as a dualboot.
Please note that Ubuntu w ZFS-on-root has some in-house made tools (ZSys by Ubuntu) to take ZFS snapshots automatically (for Ubuntu pools only)...
Hello people. I have a legacy dualboot BSD+Windows setup. Recently I did some Windows-y stuff and messed with the boot loader. Anyhow; In an attempt to recover my FreeBSD install I wrote a bootonly iso to a thumb drive, booted BSD and ran
boot0cfg -B /dev/ada0
boot0cfg -m 0x5 -s 1 -t 90...

...13.1-RELEASE on my server with UFS file system and would like to install 13-stable in a free GPT partition with the idea that I could dualboot by selecting one or the other OS through the UEFI boot menu. During initially install I copied /boot/loader.efi to /EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.efi on eps...
I am planning to install FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE on second SSD of Dell laptop. But I am scary to have some important pieces missing, hence I would like to clear few points. I read a lot of topics since few days but my understanding is not clear. Laptop came with Windows 11 preloaded on SSD. It has...
