Update:
I enabled all the power related settings I could find and I'm now reaching ~6W/ idle! I'm not sure what all these do, so I'd be glad if you could tell me which ones are the ones that actually may have had a positive (or negative) effect:
/boot/loader.conf
machdep.hwpstate_pkg_ctrl=1...
I installed a new CPU AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, replacing a Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
CPU temperature, however, seems to have gone away:
/boot/device.hints:
hint.acpi_throttle.0.disabled="1"
hint.p4tcc.0.disabled="1"
/boot/loader.conf has
amdtemp_load="YES"
freebsd-version -kru

Hi,
I start my desktop environment with startxfce4 but there is no sound.
Pulseaudio seems working (I mean pgrep gives pid when I type pgrep pulseaudio).
Pipewire installed as a dependency but has no processes.
My /etc/rc.conf file
clear_tmp_enable="YES"
hostname="2fort"
keymap="tr.kbd"...
Thanks! After adding these flags to /boot/loader.conf, powerd starts successfully on boot:
hint.p4tcc.0.disabled=0hint.acpi_throttle.0.disabled=0
However, as you mentioned: according to this post, with FreeBSD 13's hwpstate driver, powerd isn't necessary anyway.
My power settings have not changed, I'm not sure they make sense, but this is what I set many years ago when I first started using FreeBSD. I am using:
hw.acpi.cpu.cx_lowest: C8
/etc/rc.conf
powerd_enable="YES"
performance_cx_lowest="Cmax"
economy_cx_lowest="Cmax"
/boot/loader.conf...
Hi!
After upgrading from 13.1 to patch 13.1-p1 (from source, with etcupdate), my USB mouse and my USB audio interface just stoped working. They both have been working on this computer for at least 2 years before and I don't understand what is blocking them. They light up, they are detected at...

Hi everyone, I'm trying to install FreeBSD 13.0 on a vendor appliance that is almost a standard hardened server.
the problem I am having is that the appliance only has two serial ports and no video port/hardware(as far as I can see).
I can connect to the device via console, configure the bios...
I have a fresh install of 13.0-Release on a ThinkPad T460. Suspend and resume works as expected from X or Terminal environments using acpiconf -s 3. The default install should have no lid-close action as far as I know, however when I - without setting hw.acpi.lid_switch-state - close my lid, the...
bsduck,
Thank you so much for your help! I was struggling a bit yesterday trying to figure things out for these speakers to work. It worked perfect after those edits and a reboot. Again, thank you for your help, bsduck.

Hello to everyone. It's again me. I'm trying to understand what are the statement that I should put into the right configuration files to disable totally the acpi,since it seems that it is needed to boot the cdrom with freebsd with qemu and kvm. (for more informations about this,give a look at...
Hi there,
My laptop is thinkpad T400, FreeBSD 13.0 release upgraded from 12.2, default kernel.
Question as titled.
Following the instructions on this forum and other resources, I've tried to tweak config files to lower the power consumption. In /etc/rc.conf, these are added:
powerd_enable="YES"...
Thanks Mjölnir

Brace yourself
(I somewhat heavily commented, sourced configs from different places, not sure if that's helpful or only spaghetti :-/)
here's my

In my /etc/sysctl.conf, I set the default unit. In my /boot/loader.conf, I have set some power-saving options:
I will boot up the machine that had the problem later today once I get it back together.
parski I'm using a T430 and I used to run XFCE - here are sections of some of my files, from back then, that are relevant:
/boot/loader.conf
drm.i915.semaphores=1
drm.i915.intel_iommu_enabled=1
drm.i915.enable_rc6=7

My current hardware is a Lenovo Thinkpad T440p.

Not sure what to look at next, appreciate any help. My ThinkPad T510 speakers stop working after 10 to 15 minutes of playing a media file with sound (mpv video, firefox youtube). After speaker sound cuts out, I keep a video playing, then plug in headphones and hear perfect sound in the...
