Solved pkg killed it self twice, once because no internet, the second time reason unknown

You prove my point. The mods should be less lenient with people like you. Carry on.

Solved pkg killed it self twice, once because no internet, the second time reason unknown

It's your responsibility to conduct yourself in a mature and respectful manner; especially in a place like the FreeBSD Forums. There's a great amount of prestige and influence attached to the name; and nonsense such as your ridiculous thread name doesn't add credence to it. You could've written...

    FreeBSD development seems lost

Because obnoxious tantrums from the likes of you and that Retro person have no validity, nor are they of any real concern with regards to the quality or engineering of the base system. When volunteers spend their time and energy putting work into an open source project; then the likes of you...

    FreeBSD development seems lost

Don't you just love the hyperbolic trolling? I don't blame the committers for not visiting these forums much.

Will it run FreeBSD ? [Embedded Version]

https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/desktops/ideacentre/ideacentre-mini-series/lenovo-ideacentre-mini-x-gen-10-snapdragon/91b60000ut It looks like Lenovo has what appears be a non-Apple equivalent of ARM desktops running Snapdragon processors. Any Ideas if this will run FreeBSD? This could be a...

How do I go back to Windows from FreeBSD?

Boot from any bootable Windows installation medium; the installer will allow you to wipe and reformat an NTFS based partition over any existing partitions on the disk. Then just complete the remaining steps in the installer. As a reminder, you must remove the existing partition first; then...

What if Oracle hadn't bought Sun ?

Had SUN spun off their SPARC division into a separate company and added support for AMD64 too; they'd probably still be here. As good as SPARC was at the time (or still is?); the Linux/AMD64 alternative was much cheaper and more accessible. It practically dwarfed the architecture unfortunately...

    Sudo rant

There's many different parameters in your sudoers file you can change to alter its behavior. You simply don't understand Sudo.

ZFS Targeted change against OpenZFS on Linux?

The Linux community has a long track record of being hostile towards their counterparts. There certainly is a "theirs" vs "ours". They reap what they sow.

Apple announces that FreeBSD is a supported platform for Swift 6.2.

Just an FYI. Swift is now available as a package on FreeBSD! Now we get to toy with it on macOS and FreeBSD. :)

ZFS Targeted change against OpenZFS on Linux?

A boon for FreeBSD. And while they’re futzing around with meme-cachefs, we’re still winning with ZFS. Now if we could fix the ZFS ARC and mmap/page cache issue, it'll further instill FreeBSD as the better option.

Someone should port the NVidia open-source driver to FreeBSD.

Great. Let us know when you have a working port.

general/other Linux docker & docker compose in 2025

You're on a different platform. Your expectations are misplaced. Time to learn new things. Use bastille if you want that sort of convenience.

Since when does FreeBSD have faster syscalls than Linux?

    The power of correctness.

Does FreeBSD have a plan like Linux Flatpak + FlatHub?

The ports tree is so well laid out its a catalogue in and of itself. Just learn the filesystem hierarchy, your shell and use jails/pkg. No fluff.

GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation

I like the way the Arch Linux folks maintains their own collection of services in a coherent fashion. It'd be nice if FreeBSD adopting a similar experience. The main site is in need of a serious overhaul.

FreeBSD Foundation Flounders on 15 with Rust, pkgbase, and KDE

That's called Censure, not Slander. Vocabulary matters. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

FreeBSD Foundation Flounders on 15 with Rust, pkgbase, and KDE

Slander =/= Criticism What's one less ungrateful user? Wait a minute.. they're proposing KDE an as option. But the GUI installer is written in GTK? Why? 🤦‍♂️ I think the Ubuntu Server ncurses installer is good enough for a modern UX; just add FreeBSD color accents and you're done.

FreeBSD Foundation Flounders on 15 with Rust, pkgbase, and KDE

Slander of the FreeBSD Foundation is enough to get this nonsense deleted IMO. I'm all for it.

    Low-level programing languages & kernels

You people underestimate how difficult writing an operating system is. Let alone a stable, performant one. FreeBSD isn’t going to be rewritten in another language, period. Too much engineering, innovation, and historical momentum went into the system. There are already ongoing efforts that...
