here are my notes on getting the multimedia keys working
on an external usb ducky mini keyboard
https://github.com/NapoleonWils0n/cerberus/blob/master/freebsd/ducky-media-keys.org
this is the devd.conf config the keyboard...
usbhid_load="YES" goes in loader.conf
sudo vi /boot/loader.conf
usbhid_load="YES"
and hw.usb.usbhid.enable=1 should go in sysctl.conf
sudo vi /etc/sysctl.conf
hw.usb.usbhid.enable=1
no problem

hi mate
you dont need cat
have a look at this sed tutorial
https://www.grymoire.com/Unix/Sed.html
heres my notes on sed
https://github.com/NapoleonWils0n/cerberus/tree/master/sed
i meant to mention that
sometimes you have to add settings for things like keyboard settings
and then you get users who create the Xorg file as root or something like that
most wlroots dont have a gui to enable different settings
the exception is Wayfire which does have a gui to configure the desktop,
but it still stores the settings in a config file
most compositors use a config file which can be in different languages to customize the settings
dwl uses c...
Wayland doesnt have a config file like X11's Xorg
so there is no need to specify the display settings
or things like font paths or other obscure command as you would on X11
you specify things like keyboard mapping in the compositors config file
if you follow the freebsd handbook its really...
I dont have X11 installed at all
only Wayland
wlroots + dwl
Freebsd 14.2-p1
Dell xps 15 2019 -16gb ram
Macbook air 2011- 4gb ram
one of the goals of wayland is that every frame should be perfect
which i found has knock on effect of smoother video and game play
wlroots wayland compositors...
i have been running Wayland on Freebsd for the last 14 months using dwl
and i have found video playback is much smoother than on X
Also games play are a lot smoother as well
Duke Nukem runs like a dream
you dont need to run the backlight command as root
backlight 100
heres my root config files for my macs running freebsd
macbook air 2011

i was an rxvt user for many years
but got fed up with the in my opinion poor font rendering
and having to use Xresources for the config
so i switched to alacritty a couple of years ago
alacritty-0.14.0_2 GPU-accelerated terminal emulator
sudo pkg install alacritty
alacritty use...
I just installed LLaVa vision model with ollama

i came across a weird bug with emacs
not sure if it only happens on wayland, or if X11 has the same issue
i start dwl on the command line after logging at the tty
instead of using a gui login manager
after you login you are in your home directory
eg
~
so normally i start dwl from my home...
i have a ducky mini 60% keyboard with cherry mx blue switches
