So if anyone can reproduce the crash with non-NVIDIA GPUs (Intel, AMD, Arm, ...) using Andriy's reproducer, the original issue (crash) in plasmashell could be a bug in plasmashell (or Qt) that abusing driver functionalities?
In latest upgrade i was pleasantly surprised..on the list was this: nvidia-driver: 595.104.02 -> 595.112.07 [FreeBSD-ports], nvidia-drm-612-kmod: 595.104.02.1501000_1 -> 595.112.07.1501000 [FreeBSD-ports], nvidia-kmod: 595.104.02.1501000 -> 595.112.07.1501000 [FreeBSD-ports]...So...
Grahic Card: Palit "GeForce RTX 3050 KalmX 6GB"
NVIDIA Driver Version: 550.163.01 (no success with newer ones on FreeBSD with this special card)
up to date FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p6 amd64
The test went without an issue - I stopped it at:
...following the above instructions on how to upgrade to 15.1, and I cannot successfully upgrade even if my life depeneded on it. Either my Nvidia drivers get replaced with another set of drivers which leave me at a black screen, or I encounter some of a kernel panic immediately after the boot...
Thank you very much, everyone!
Some hopefully good news, the crash has been assigned an nvidia bug number: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/freebsd-595-99-02-sigsegv-null-deref-in-libnvidia-glcore-so-1-during-glunmapbuffer-path-qt-quick-render-thread-plasmashell/384762/5
Got a crash here.

Qt depends on a UTF-8 locale, and has switched to "C.UTF-8" instead.
If this causes problems, reconfigure your locale. See...
No, but they are mostly used for display servers. And I've been moving display driver issues to "Display servers" for a few years now, just like network card driver issues are moved to networking. Keeps everything nicely together.
I dont have a BSD instance running that has an NVIDIA card attached so I ran your test on Debian13 Linux
* 05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 3GB] (rev a1)
* driver 570.207
* xorg running in xaphod configuration
* openbox window manager
* gcc version...
...art.
I developped some unscientific heuristics.
Let Z be total layers of the model.
- Start with X=Z/2 and Y=Z
If this works :
-> look at nvidia-smi
-> Then let X_new=X_old* Memory_Card / Usage_card
If it does not work :
-> let X_new=X_old/2
..... etc ...
Once you have max layers in gpu...
...glxrepro-min repro-main.cpp $(pkg-config --cflags --libs Qt6Quick Qt6Qml gl x11)
As I said, Plasma/KDE are not required.
But Qt6 is required.
NVIDIA hardware and drivers are also, obviously, required.
Also, X is required. Perhaps Wayland is affected too, but the reproducer is target for X...
