it started (AI)

Adobe told me they no longer allow “old” software to be activated and took down the activation servers.

“Buy a subscription” was the best I got after almost two hours on the phone with Adobe.

The reset of licenses that were sold as unlimited licenses in the past would make me never want to do business with that company.

The EU control freaks you can at least bribe.
Aw shut up, will you?

bgavin Depending on your country, you might have grounds for lawfare. Threatening that might get them to buy back the licence you no longer can use. Breach of contract, selling defective goods, ... And anyway, adobe has really earned their place on my black list. Looks like that is spreading.

Well based on my latest research in the AI space, Model Context Protocol (MCP) looks like another Ninety-ninety ruler.

I haven’t fully verified the full codebase but my brief glance at the tech stack drew some concerns for me. MCP utilizes JSON-RPC 2.0 to route its programming logic akin to symbolic linking (similar to ln -s /filepath/to/binary but in JSON).

It does not have native support for low level networking protocols such as ICMP, TCP/IP, FTP and so on. The protocol was “donated” to the Linux Foundation circa 2025 by Anthropic.

I had just joined the MCP community and these technical nuances are currently being discussed. So this would be the “engine” behind these new ports at ports tree.

EDIT: Traced this specific port to its MCP backend Photo Craft MCP: https://photocraft.run/mcp

Timestamp of MCP’s open source release date

De/Recompiling via Ai is going to be a thing.
But this is not.
It only looks like the original. Under the hood it is the proverbial slop, very unlikely to get better.

The viral marketing of this is suss.
Certainly Adobe and IP lawyers will have a field day with this.

I only sporadically used Gimp at best. My artsy part of brain is that of a bored raccoon. KolorPaint is all I need.
But what I gathered, even semi-professionals are stuck with Adobe because of UI muscle memory, not functionality.
Anything UI related is about to change towards natural language prompts, tho.
Adobe is screwed anyway. But I am sure they will manage by providing Cloud tools (they already do) - and you can't decompile that.

I find it odd/annoying that a 100pct ai derived tool is in the ports, but when I ask here if a few tools I wrote personally are worth entering into ports I get a resounding "no" (but I suspect the ai didn't ask; they just did).
Yep, and in the meantime useful port update are in limbo land, new port for stuff like sdl2-compat are lingering as well.

Woah those are a lot of crates.

ETA: and 359 out of 523 crates have version numbers below 1.0.
And why do that when there is onlyoffice that works perfectly fine.
Sure we only got the server side port of it, but it is very easy to just spawn the frontend either with Nextcloud, or just running some onlyoffice examples and then point your browser to localhost.

But that probably uses 300 pre-1.0 package for Javascript, no?

I posted yesterday the page I believe you linked, and the problems are listed there.

It is exactly what you'd expect. These programs are GUI masterpieces. Whoever did not work on a large desktop application does not know what pandoras box GUIs are. The notion that mass amount of shortcuts and behaviours are missing means that UI "flow" is nothing more than a slop generation.

All this <1.0 and vibe coding looks like some witch trowing everything into a cauldron and calling it a special brew which cures some ailments.
