I like to add, by my experience in the last ~5 years NVIDIA causes less problems than AMD cards.
When I assembled my new desktop computer I had to replace the AMD based card because of not being supported at all, by a NVIDIA one which works.
I didn't checked recently if this is still the case, but in contrary to AMD some years ago NVIDIA started to publish their drivers for open source OS. So if any GPU is best supported on open source OS it's NVIDIA.
Don't use those drivers for FreeBSD, unless you know exactly what you're doing and why. Stick to what's in the Handbook and the drivers coming with ports/packages! If not, that's exactly one of the problems many people are getting with their GPUs.

While the contrary is the case: Problems are an exception.
And many of those problems not seldom can be tracked back to being newbies to FreeBSD not reading The Handbook, not reading the FAQs, not reading the documentation, not reading the manpages, not reading the Wiki, not reading the official announcements, not reading the forums first, but already experimenting, e.g. fumbling with CURRENT not knowing this ain't not the most recent RELEASE, tinkering things unconsidered their own way, getting stuff from github instead using ports/packages, or do naive what some AI chatbot said while still lacking enough expertise to rate those things, so fumbling and tinkering not knowing what they are doing.
