I'm a 24-year-old philologist, and I use FreeBSD for work, studying, research, music, and browsing the internet.

It is a community college class, Network Attack Principles. They offer a program in Cyber Security. I am personally interested in putting some of my stuff on the internet (DNS, email, www, and maybe a few other things), so I am trying to make sure I have some idea about security.

I tested an external web site, let my brother know it was there and asked him to access it as a test. Left it up for a day or two, and then read the access logs. OMG, can't believe the number of bots trying to hack in. Keep your web server up to date!

Yes, I remember #3, those plasma displays were cool. As for me, type #1 for sure.

FreeBSD is the only operating system, although it has flaws, it has problems, but they are solved, because one OS, one solution. I think the biggest argument is that people are more adequate and can not only talk about BSD, but also tell how it works, what to do. I was scared by ports, but it's not as scary as they scare. There is support
I work in KiCAD, FreeCAD, SDRAngel ...
There are actually a lot of packages in ports, even Valentina is there, a sewing package. So everyone is obsessed with Linux, and if there are packages for Linux, then they are tested on several, often it's Ubuntu and Fedora, and to add BSD it is enough to simply add #ifdef OS==FreeBSD to the lists and that's it

me too I was scared by ports but the fear is more damageable then the thing it self !

I haven't got a clue how to program, and my terminal knowledge is basic. I only use sh to perform basic maintenance

I'm using it on my MacBook Air as a daily driver. Internet, emails, reading books, writing scientific and educational stuff (mostly in LaTeX). Libre Office also works fine for me. In some rare cases if I got some Microsoft word documents heavily polluted with mathematical expressions and special formatting, I need to use office 365 web version to convert the document to pdf, and then I can review it still using FreeBSD. Months ago I changed from Debian to FreeBSD, and I think I have reached the point of no return
