This is very interesting and polished project:

Somebody, i.e. not me, is creating omarchy experience on FreeBSD.
I am not much for ricing, Wayland or hyprland but it has a lot of useful utilities and ideas/scripts/solutions:

sandbox - runs any application in a disposable FreeBSD jail backed by a ZFS clone.
cliamp - is a retro terminal music player inspired by Winamp.
Voxtype - is a push-to-talk voice dictation tool.
webapp-install - turns any URL into a desktop app.
llama.cpp + [jailed] claude code + opencode + pi + hermes
and much more.

I haven't tested it but just the utils above get me excited.

Not much to do with programming here. Wouldn't this topic be better under WindowManagers or DislayServers forum? Not a biggie but seems more appropriate there.
 
since when was "some gobshite's dotfiles" on the same level as a distribution? the dude's neovim config loads all of one plugin and sets dark mode, that's not even an opinion, that's a favorite color. and who cares about what DHH thinks anyway? toilet flushing noises

Its the worst thing that happend to arch linux bar none. Not even recent AUR shenanigans come close to it. They call this "opinionated distro". Whatever the hell that means. Bunch of proprietary and ai garbage bundled in one single arch iso. Its so bad, its brilliant.

A bunch of kids tuning hyprland and niri configs to their, so called, taste. Bloating the distro with shit ton of icons, dependencies, custom fonts, and addons just so their wm/desktop can look fancy.

Im an old bitter fart. I know.

Thanks but as another old fart, I still don't "get it" :)
WMs, DEs, sure make them "your own". But "omarchy experience" I come back to "please define omarchy so I know what I'm experiencing"

Worst of all, crap like this has a huge user base and following. So huge that it makes me question my own sanity. Are we just too old and stubborn and we dont get it? Are we living in denial because we consider 80s and 90s as a golden age of computing. Are we yelling at clouds ? Are we the problem ?

Omarchy is out of the box hyprland DE mounted on Arch linux, i.e. what some people spend hours putting together, is in ISO, ready to go and optimized.

But what exactly does the bolded part mean? Optimized for whom?
Someone that wants a DE to work exactly the way omarchy currently works, with the default applications as defined?
That's like everyone saying a Fiat 500 is ready to go and optimized.
Utilities and scripts are only as useful as they are to "being useful to someone"

I personally have zero use for any of those; but if you do, good for you.

But that does not make it ready to go and optimized.

ETA:
DEs/WMs/GUI environments are very personal. What tickles your fancy may cause me migraines. There are always tradeoffs between looks and usefulness and the goal is to find something that is pretty enough for you but still lets you do real work.
My minimal research on omarchy led me to the creator being opinionated and basically "I created this to work the way I want to and if you don't like it you are unenlightend and don't deserve my consideration"

That a good news because we don't need him. Welcome to the "free" world of Linux; in contrast, BSD says: "Here is a good operating system—do whatever you want with it."

After a major SSD failure (1), I had to reinstall my entire system. I didn't really look at the clock, but it took me less than 2 hours, including the FreeBSD install, extra packages, X11 / Nvidia setup, accounts and passwords configuration, and restoring some files from Proton Drive or USB stick. So, where is the problem?

(1) Problem definitively resolved by mirroring two disks in a ZFS pool 👍

There are no real optimizations. That word is getting thrown around quite a lot these days to hype things up. Omarchy is nothing more than bloated arch iso with installation script and it should not be used by anyone. Making freebsd version of it is just blasphemy.

Yes, you might not like it that way. Me neither btw. I have no need or want for tilling WM or Arch linux. Or Fiat 500.
If i did however, it would be nice if the Fiat 500 would come pre-assembled. And me instead of spending 100 hrs to assemble something resembling it, would spend maybe 1 hour taking out the parts I don't like or adding some extra.
And these extras are the scripts I mentioned, which I had no idea exist in FreeBSD userland, until author of omfreebdy created this.

The personality of the creator of Omarchy is irrelevant.
The post is about omfrebdy.
Any OSS is "take it as is, fork it or bye"
