14.4 p1 update didn't add "p1" to the new bectl entry

Before, when I'd update with a patch, I'd get a newly created bectl entry with the patch number in the name (..p8..).

That is no more? I updated 14.4 with p1 and bectl entry just has 14.4-RELEASE_date_081340. It was pretty convenient to know what update it was at each bectl entry.

The BE that's automatically created with freebsd-update(8) is made before the patch is applied.

14.4-RELEASE -> BE snapshot -> patched -> 14.4-RELEASE-p1

Why would it? It was made before p1 was applied, ergo it was 14.4-RELEASE, hence the BE's name reflecting that. Your 'default' BE (I assume you never changed its name) is 14.4-RELEASE-p1 now.
