Rant about food.

My great-grandfather sadly died at the age of 99-3/4. He had lived by himself (in a 5th floor apartment) for dozens of years. He liked to drink Schnapps (old German), smoke cigars, and play the guitar. And make dirty jokes. He hated most of the family, but for some reason he liked me (I was 6 or 7 years old at the time).

Then he fell down the staircase, and broke his arm. Nothing serious, just a cast. But because of his age, they put him in the hospital for a few days. Well, in the hospital you can't make dirty jokes, and touching the behinds of the nurses is discouraged. There is no Schnapps there, and you can't smoke cigars. He died within 3 days.

What do I eat? I have been mildly overweight for years (but in good shape, in the sense of doing lots of exercise). Recently, my blood sugar has gone out of control, so I was put on Ozempic, to get the sugar down. So now I eat very little. I try to focus on proteins and whole grains; being less hungry, it is easy to avoid carbohydrates like bread. Lots of fat from the cheeses I love to eat though. And no sodas, no sugar in my coffee, and few sweets (except dark chocolate and licorice).
Like my grandmother bot she was younger, 91. As I remember she never seen a doctor, everyday she drink coffee in the morning and glass of wine after lunch. She were cooking and used pork fat for cooking all her life. But the list year she got IMO a flu. She thought that will be good in day or two but it didn't. She said I have enough of life and she start just drinking to the end.

I don't if this was a line from fortune or somewhere else, but I remember the line, Health food fanatics are going to feel awfully silly lying in the hospital, dying of nothing. (Probably not the exact quote but similar).
Exactly. We all die at some point. I'd rather live a joyful life (think bacon) that's a little shorter instead of a soulless longer life.

I just switched from cheap oatmeal to expensive "certified organic" oatmeal, to try to avoid the roundup and BHA in the cheap stuff. Neither BHA nor roundup is good food for humans, apparantly. Fingers crossed.
Hopefully I'm not just getting scammed into paying more by marketeers.

The old saying goes, that you don't actually live any longer, it just seems that way. Still... I'll stick with not eating weedkiller!

In general I look at this subject purely as calories in calories out. Depending on what type and amount of macros you consume the percentages of carb, fat, and protein will determine how your body feels(which is where “healthy” comes from, when your body feels good).

By general caloric density:
carb <= protein < fat

But they all are measured in energy so, 2000cal fat = 2000cal carb = 2000cal protein

2000cals of deep fried twinkies vs 2000cals of broccoli can be thought of as the same energy given. BUT, I will bet that the 2000cal of broccoli would almost be impossible to eat in one sitting. Whereas 2000cals of twinkies is “only” 7 of them if they are 280cals each.

I have experience with tracking calories of everything I eat for wrestling competition weight classes, but also because I just kind of enjoyed the process.

I find it interesting that if you can estimate closely how many calories you burn in a time period, you can easily calculate how much you want to gain/lose i.e. like 1 pound a week.

Also last note is, exercise(albeit very good for you), is of course not needed for weight loss. The most important part to finding your healthy self is consistency and knowing exactly what you eat.

I can get very passionate about this subject because there are so many people, companies, etc out there that either lie, mislead, or twist the truth a little.

TLDR I agree with your doctor, if you eat what your body feels it needs and you feel good, then that works perfectly.

My grandparents are 93/94 years old, they're in the nursing home.
The trick to getting old, and its not just they're old, their face skin is better than some people 50 years younger then them, is low to no amounts of stress.

No food gym or whatever is going to help you if you're eating yourself from inside.
