Our group had a good run with the last 2 eclipses. Maybe we'll be lucky again, but if not that would be OK.
 
I never understood what the big deal was about seeing an eclipse till one was in my area a few years ago. It was the most surprisingly spectacular thing I've ever witnessed but I'm not sure I'd spend money to travel far to see another.

Yeah, same here. But I would blow the money to see a volcanic eruption (like what I've been posting on my profile) live. Try feeling the actual, raw geothermal heat from just under a mile away. Like standing in front of a hot oven, except for the fact that no human can turn that source of heat on and off at will, just whenever convenient. Not even Uncle Sam can control that heat, not even with a bomb (even though he tried).

That reminds me of this accident I drove by right after it happened some time last year. It was barely flickering one minute before. I was amazed how much heat I felt sitting in my car that far away.

I'm always amazed at how stupid humans can be. First, we decided to settle on a planet that has free oxygen in the atmosphere. That's completely insane: oxygen is highly reactive, and does its best to destroy everything it comes into contact with. Just think of all the rust.

Then we take the most flammable liquid known to humankind, and put about 15 gallons = 60 liters into a sheet metal box. And we zoom around with these sheet metal boxes at high speed on flat surfaces. When they hit each other, or the flammable liquid leaks just a little bit, it turns into a flaming inferno with the oxygen in the air.

I hear Mars is nice this time of the year ...

Plane engine fires seem like less of an issue (foam it and hopefully get somewhere with the other engines), and plenty of people fly in pressurized metal containers alongside fuel daily no problem :p

The stupids enjoy it when meeting other stupids being more stupid, because they entertain each other and call it fun.
It's such a great story you are telling, that "humans have decided to settle on a planet ...". Wow!
Go and get rich by claiming there was no evolution on earth, or even better humans came from elsewhere because the blue planet looked so nice ...

I thought that ralphbsz was merely being sarcastic. Being sarcastic and pointed is an art, y'know.... an art that's getting lost because people don't always recognize it when they see it, because they don't know what to look for, or ask how the situation/comment brewed up in the first place. 😩
 
astyle it's so great that there are forum members who so selflessly share their interpretive authority with us, even before the people addressed have posted their responses. You are absolutely right that texts are not just about recognition (OCR) but also about interpretation (text comprehension preferably without AI support).

Based on the saying, “If all you have is a hammer, then every problem is a nail,” I would like to point out that if sarcasm is the main tool in your text comprehension toolbox, then you may end up with poor explanations such as “he was merely being sarcastic.”

Sarcasm is known to be the blunt sword, while irony is the fine, sharp foil in writing. It's not even an art to recognize a sword, but to overlook irony is very, very courageous.

Elektor Formant. A very ambitious project for a 70's electronics magazine. Elektor was really a cut above the other electronics mags, high quality, as you can see from this copy of the original series of articles. One of the nicer aspects of this project was that it used readily available, cheap electronic components, nothing really exotic or expensive. Lots of 741's, BC107's, BF244/5's etc, etc. If you wanted to learn how a synth worked, this was a great way to do it.
