All countries are different, tell me a fact about your country.

There are around 160 countries in the world. Here in Belgium we are ranked number 3 in lowest number of poor people.
Second fact Belgians do, we don't buy on debt. When we have some money, we buy a house and go live in it.
There where in my whole life two loans. One for my house, another my visa card 1.500 Euros :)
What's your fact. [ It can be good food :), or something cultural ]

Ha. That makes me laugh "Morning status meeting for you is dinner time for me"
You wouldn't believe just how important and relevant it is in the corporate world. I once had to deal with a central IT office in India just to make sure that someone in an office at West Coast USA gets their meager wages on time. 13 hour time difference is no joke, and I wasted 2 days because I was the only one in the local office who realized that.

Oh I do understand; I've been in that situation. Luckily I seem to have an old farmers body clock (yes I kick the roosters out of bed) so easily touched base with India and Japan. Freaked a few people out when they realized "He's answering in real time".

And how many European countries would you cross in that same 12 hours?
I can answer that: Zero.

Cambodia is in Asia.
Catalonia is entirely within Spain.
Canada is in North America.
California... should I mess around and say IDK when I actually know quite a bit about that state? 🤪

Right... I completely forgot about Canberra, which is completely on the other side of the planet from Europe...

192+ countries.

California is not a country.
Yeah, but it's still bigger than some small countries in terms of land area and population. And it does take more than 12 hours to drive from Oakland to Los Angeles, even if you take I-5.

And? So what? Most states / Territories in the US and Canada are bigger than small countries.

This is what we’re dealing with in the US. California is the worst governed state in the country; has the most homeless people, had no water in the hydrants to fight fires that destroyed over 12,000 homes; has not issued 1 permit to rebuild those homes in 6 months; people and companies are fleeing the state in droves; and we have some guy referring to California in the context of a country.

Well, come to our country, and if you're white, you'll probably be OK. If not, there's a good chance that masked people will kidnap you, refuse you any right to trial, and throw you in jail, prior to shipping you wherever they want, and the little lapdogs in congress are fine with this.

What's the point of going off on such a negative tangent?

Agree. If it were, it would be the 4th or 5th largest in the world by GDP (size of the economy). Well, and undisputed #1 in almonds. And as others mentioned, it is quite big. Just a week or two ago, we drove much of "I5", the big freeway that runs north south. From San Diego in the south to Hilt (a tiny village right before Oregon), it is about as far as Barcelona to Frankfurt.

I do agree that it also ranks very high in measures of political stupidity. But it shares that with many other places, such as Texas, Germany, Brazil, Israel, Russia, and so on. All of which are smaller.

Uhhh... Y'know, Russia covers 11 time zones, and is frankly the world's largest country by area, 17 million sq. km... Wikipedia's 2025 estimate of population is ~145 million, while for for California alone, the 2024 estimate is over 39 million residents...
