Diversity is the world in which we live.I do not make any moral or ethical judgment, and I do not believe in good or evil.I give to others, the part that I am given to me

I follow your opniion. But can you guide me to freebsd community laws. As a comminty we want to be possitive.
Me as an indivual i'm try to be always repecfull. But this is a big word. Don"t do wrong. Choose your words

Dear Limonon, you develop kernel or ports ? Developors are too intelligent for me. I hope this not offends you. So to resolve, you can tell me anything. Because many users and persons here know nothing about developers.
Most of us are just regular freebsd users.

The fact that you brought up his orientation unprompted and seemingly related to nothing, already makes this post suspect to being not friendly, not welcoming, not considerate, and not respectful. Unless you think this personal attribute affects the project in a negative way, I think the most positive and respectful thing you could do in this situation is request post deletion.

Why would you care? Seriously. I remember Louis C.K. doing a bit about him asking someone, Why are you against gay marriage? The person answered because I'd have to explain it to my daughter. Louis C.K.'s answer was, so two people in love should be kept apart for life because you might have a 5 minute uncomfortable conversation?

It is something like, Let me get all upset about something that has nothing to do with me. Which is what the far right in the US does, get upset about what others might do that offends them much of which has nothing to do with them.

As for anyone's sexual orientation, it has nothing to do with you unless they are attracted to you and you are of a different orientation.
I would be very surprised if the official FreeBSD community has anything to say about it.

Unless you're a member of the far right, someone's race, sexual orientation, etc. has nothing to do with you, nor anything to do with their qualifications for most jobs. If you are one of those who thinks only straight white men should be developers, then you'll probably be disappointed at some point.

Inclusion and diversity are great things for the community because it allows us to achieve technically excellent things simply by not being jerks. Because people who are different from us can make useful and even excellent contributions.

And even if one can't bring oneself to be actively inclusive to people who are different, then at least be tolerant, which is more of a passive quality. But honestly, being inclusive and accepting of diversity doesn't really require a whole lot of effort. Or at least it shouldn't.

If you wanna bring up "merit" anytime somebody says "inclusion" or "diversity," you're not "[being] careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others."

What does merit even mean in that situation? No bad code? You haven't even seen their code...

I kind of get the impression we're talking around some things. There are plenty of times when someone who is qualified, but not a straight white male, winds up feeling excluded. Sometimes, I'm sure, it's in their mind. Sometimes it's not. So, as drhowarddrfine says, it would be made on merit, but I would say it's more it SHOULD be based on merit. Again, it depends where you live. In the US, right now, the government is loudly proclaiming NO DEI, and so they wind up getting people in the cabinet, say, who don't seem the most highly qualified for their positions. That's an understatement to avoid being too political.

IF contributers "feel" that way, they should communicate their reasons and not pretending lack of time.
The lack of time might be from experience because discussing orientation with bone heads of any political spectrum is a waste of time.

A DEI hire gets the job not for his skills and qualifications but for the skin color, sex, Religion or other attribute, like being a good party soldier or golf buddy. DEI hires should have no place in a government. I'm with them that far.

What are the freebsd comminuty saying about this
I can't speak for the community, but I'd hope they say nothing. That is his cup of tea. If it's not yours, so what? The line is where I say "no thanks" and that is ignored.

Live and let live.

When hiring, you'll have candidates you deem to be functionally equivalent. A DEI hire in a situation can mean because the organization is deficient in whatever DEI metrics they are trying to hit (match % of population, etc), any candidate meeting those metrics would break a tie.

You seem acutely aware of this sort of implicit tiebreaking by mentioning golf buddy. Clearly "DEI" by your definition has existed for centuries. The actual function is to formalize which circumstances carefully selected attributes can be used to break ties vs letting an existing hegemony decide to reinforce itself implicitly.

Implementations of "DEI" will still require the skills.

I too wish we would just focus on technical excellence in technical forums.

Crivens sorry, but what are you referring to? I do not want to guess what you mean. Please elaborate. What drives you to argue with "political spectrum" here?

POSIX.1 It was said that *phobia is a thing of the far-right. That is not the case. You find irrational fears of many a kind all over the political spectrum, and that spectrum is not one-dimensional. You will find idiots in each direction, sometimes more than in other directions, but nevertheless. Discussing with cult members does not work, it wastes time. So, instead of trying to discuss things with people, you better move on.

Crivens are we reading the same thread?
Neither pattern /*phobia/ nor /far-right/ can be found here. Why are you politicizing this? It is about social behavior only here. Community-things within the FreeBSD community.
