I don't know about 14.1, but I tried 14 (dvd) and it doesn't work.

I don't have the latest version of ventoy installed on my drive but I can boot and install 14.1-STABLE fine. I wish Ventoy had a installer for BSDs too, it would make things easy.

Which filesystem is your data partition on the Ventoy stick?

DVD1 won't fit on msdosfs, for obvious reasons.

What says gpart show -p about it?
Ventoy creates an exFAT partition (gpt1) for your ISOs and a small (32M) FAT partition (gpt2) as the 'Ventoy magic' partition.

Personally, I always reformat the exFAT partition as EXT4 as I find it easier to access from FreeBSD.

I'm tempted to grab DVD1 and give it a try.

I've been trying to put something together for months but am stuck trying figure out what a couple of lines in the installer do...

... ie lines 594 on from:-

Bash:
    if [ "$PART1_TYPE" = "EE" ]; then
vtdebug "This is GPT partition style ..."
        echo -en '\x22' | dd status=none of=$DISK conv=fsync bs=1 count=1 seek=92
        xzcat ./boot/core.img.xz | dd status=none conv=fsync of=$DISK bs=512 count=2014 seek=34
        echo -en '\x23' | dd of=$DISK conv=fsync bs=1 count=1 seek=17908 status=none

I just tried the 14.0 dvd on Ventoy 1.0.98 and that boots ok.

It is EXT4. The ISO (alongside another one I added) is placed in the partition without problems. I just get an error, related with USB (from what I can understand) when I tried to boot FreeBSD. And it keeps repeating the boot process.

What do you mean "14.1-STABLE"? 14.1 hasn't released yet. Did you mean to say "14-STABLE" or do I miss something?

And did it work?
Nope! It's what I tried when I first said that it doesn't work for me.

I did tried with "14.1-RC", disk and it gives me the same error. You all seem to be tried the dvd version. Is there a chance that this is the problem?

Yes, I meant 14-STABLE but it became 14.1-STABLE.
Code:
% uname -aKU
FreeBSD desktop.home.lan 14.1-STABLE FreeBSD 14.1-STABLE stable/14-n267701-e73147fc7ca6 GENERIC amd64 1401500 1401500

I can boot & install following versions of FreeBSD (not tested with latest ventoy).
Code:
FreeBSD-14.0-STABLE-amd64-20240321-87c7f74ff4da-267004-disc1.iso
FreeBSD-14.1-STABLE-amd64-20240517-e73147fc7ca6-267701-disc1.iso

Not sure how you have partitioned your Ventoy device. Ventoy uses the first two partitions although you are free to reserve as much space as you want for your own needs at the end of the device.
