Thank you. Very helpful. I will try to read more before using freeBSD. Just a quick question: do the books you all have mentioned set you off on a project, like a jumping off point for a real problem like administration or security with some policy creation tool?

I'm not aware of any books on PostgreSQL administration from a FreeBSD-perspective per se. All of the books that I've read on PostgreSQL administration use Linux as their OS of choice, however I don't think you'll have many issues making any of the examples in the books work on FreeBSD.
 
I've found that the postgreSQL site has excellent documentation including info about FreeBSD usage or installation. They were minor points and you don't need to do anything different to use it on FreeBSD.
