Solved Alternative to SanDisk SecureAccess in Ports?

After I wrote my initial post I came to think of geli(8) as another kind of alternative. Initially I have been under the impression that geli(8) is only intended for permanent drives, and never thought of it with flash drives. Maybe this is a misconception?

Could you please comment on this?

Unfortunately I'm not really that familiar with geli(8) yet. It's on my "to do" list but haven't got there yet so I can't give an informed comment.

Hopefully someone more familiar with it can chime in here.
