Upgraded to 14.0 cannot install ports or packages

Hi,.
I am somewhat new to upgrades, etc. Was on 12.3, wanted to install alpine, no go. So I figured (probably incorrectly) to upgrade. Upgrade successful to 12.4, still no alpine install. Since 12.4 is EOL in a week, tried upgrading to 13.2, bad hash. Upgrade to 14.0 successful. Ports tree present. Cannot install anything various errors. No git. Cannot install git from pkg or from ports. Any suggestions on how to begin?
Thanks,
Charles

There are several posts on things alike. Look for the ones about the upgrade to 14 and pkg refusing to work. Solutions are provided there.

Another reason may be shell environment of you current user. In freebsd 14 default shell is /bin/sh
If you have different, in some cases, pkg cannot find any packages to install. Check it.
