For what it's worth: I have a Toshiba laptop right here. It's been used intensively (almost every day, often left running 24/7) for over 2 years now and the only problem I have with it (from a hardware reliability point of view, at least) is that the CD/DVD player doesn't burn anymore (it still reads, though).
