Unable to start KDE

Good Day Everyone,

I have been following the Handbook for installing X Org and KDE Plasma up to:

8.2.1.4. Start KDE Plasma​

However when i try to run startplasma-x11 i receive $DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X Server.

im on thinkpad x260 intel graphics card. This is a big learning curve being new to Freebsd, if there are any more commands i can run to show output that would be much appreciated.

First thing:

kld_list="i1915kms"

Change that to:

kld_list="i915kms"

Thanks, I forgot to mention the need to do something more (for the change to take effect). Typically, restart the operating system. I guess that you already did this.

Do you know the model? It'll be listed as the _device_ if you run the command below.

pciconf -lv | grep -B 4 -A 1 VGA

Possibly, although the opening poster has reached part of chapter 8 (with DRM-related advice, including the i915kms hint, three chapters earlier).

Thank you for the responses. Ill be checking my graphics driver with the command above. and ensuring drm kmod is installed. I am at work right now. By this evening i will have a response whether it works or not. Thank you again

Happy to say I got xfce up and running on system startup!
