new user - for not few `pkg info <pkgname>` results in `pkg: No package(s) matching <pkgname>`

thanks for reading, asking when using FreeBSD 15-1pN with pkg

while the initial installer only had few such circumstances after install

after a first pkg upgrade and later freebsd-update install the number of pkg info returning no package matching grew significantly

I've tried the obvious like pkg clean -a and pkg update to no avail

Help and/or explanation much appreciated to get around this nuisance.

Thanks

JL

testing again today shows for two pkg there's now one with info available
testing xmlsec and xmlsec1

i'm on quarterly so I assume this is a temporary issue after release and the build pipeline is catching up?

Build pipelines were caught up last week, not sure why it wasn't working for you yesterday. Note that freebsd-update(8) had nothing to do with it, unless you did a major version upgrade with it?

pkg-clean(8) deletes previously downloaded, and cached in /var/cache/pkg/ packages. It won't change what is or isn't available in the repositories.

pkg-update(8) might be beneficial, it doesn't always detect a changed repository correctly, you sometimes have to force it to update the cached catalogue.
