The defaultroute has been configured properly and is working.
I cannot make any sense out of the error message. Any hints please?

can you elaborate on your network configuration? show the output of netstat -nr and /etc/rc.conf

Is it customized? I've had some output from route(8) when I was disabled IPV6 support.

Also I wonder if there's more messages related to the line.

The configuration is the same as on other RELEASE-14.3 systems here, but this error message does appear only on the new STABLE-15 testing box.

yeah, we would not build a kernel without ipv6 support. we don't use it, but taking it out doesn't do anything besides add complexity by moving away from the default config.
