FreeBSD website redesign...

Thanks i just thought 2 most important things would be 1.Download button 2.Handbook button right next to it..cause it is widely used and it is only recommended way to manage through FreeBSD. Rest of the page should be minimal easy to read, with good color selection..i messed up that red text..the more i look into it it becomes more obvious :D
Good thinking.
Neon red can feel more expensive but the the current one is fine - it is not eye sore.
But my sight is deformed by years of navigating obsolete SCADA systems, so don't listen to me re colors.

I am sucker for Google Play font, tho.

No problem, well it can be red but not as bright, dark background requires lighter color..this is also one example of traditional/modern look for FreeBSD Homepage..with lighter red text..it looks more readable.

Matthew45 I like your redesign but it is not legal, UNIX/Unix is a trademark and FreeBSD does not have any licence to use it. And that trademark is being prioritized in advertising FreeBSD.

The text from About section is historical fact and legal-proof. FreeBSD, was derived from Berkeley Unix. It is a liberated spinoff. I don't think it is realistic to minimize it, and I think somebody knowledgeable gave enough thought how to formulate it to not claim it is Unix but still leave no doubt it is not an Unix.

Patents, IP and copyrights are the lawyer plague sent on us.
Hopefully the AI copyright mayhem will render these disputes irrelevant.

ok sorry for that..this was just a mockup.I wasn't trying to imply that FreeBSD is officially UNIX-certified or licensed to use the UNIX trademark. My intention was mainly to make FreeBSD's heritage and identity immediately clear to somebody arriving from Linux, Windows or another operating system. For a real redesign I would change the headline accordingly. Something like “FreeBSD — Powerful. Open. BSD.” or wording that emphasizes its BSD heritage, reliability and engineering without using UNIX as a product designation. This mockup was all about layout..i didnt pay attention to writing..so my bad..and you are 100% right!!

This is the last one i did in vectorcraft in my taste forum did not let me to upload the original size so i exported it in HD resolution

This. I suppose I should be happy it continues to run on some of my hardware without wanting me to turn on 20 third party scripts just to display basic text. I'm sick of everything thinking I should have https support just to send some html one-way. I spent decades doing webdev and man if I'd known things were going to get this bad and people were so willing to accept the garbage that passes as "modern web design" today I would have stayed in another 10 years before cashing out.

When I think of all the years I wasted trying to make things xhtml complaint and testing in multiple browser engines it makes me sick to see just how far things have fallen and just how much the W3C sold out. I'm sick of this "living standard" that boils down to "whatever Google decided to shit out this week".
