no, you still will, via geographic IP filtering. As in, if you're in Australia, you'll get more hits about stuff that happens in Australia, and stuff that happens elsewhere gets less priority.

It isn't exactly hard to see the blatant censorship. Just go to youtube and type in anything considered a "conspiracy theory" into the search box. Behold the same handful of "approved sources" spreading lies polluting the search results while videos with millions of views are hidden (and often regularly have their view count reset). Even over relatively harmless stupid jokes.

Google/Youtube is a private company, it's their platform and they get to decide what is or is not published through their platform. For the same reason we admins/mods get to decide what does or does not get posted here. If you post some conspiratorial bullshit here, it will get deleted. And we have every right to do so, it's our platform, we get to decide what is or isn't allowed here. Content moderation is not censorship.

It's a search engine designed for people that actually think the reporting on the nightly news is fair and unbiased. The type of people that do not know what the Smith-Mundt Modernization act of 2013 is or why it allows their own Government to lie to them.

Wrong. The act applies to government-funded broadcasting companies (like Voice of America), it does not extent to private (broadcast) companies, it certainly doesn't apply to Google/Youtube. It also doesn't give the government (USA specifically; It's an American law) the "right" to lie. That is a gross misinterpretation of the act.

Speaking of content moderation, this thread is rapidly heading towards closing, perhaps even the trash bin.

I can still get info from 1st page with Google, but I think it got worse a couple years before they added AI results on-top.

Google got stupid literally a few days after I posted that (not having top result URLs on 1st results but hidden in AI overview, 1st page changing significantly on a refresh a few seconds later, and captchas every other search)

DDG and SP were iffy on results in the past too so its like what to use? Or maybe the point is for all traditional search engines to degrade until their AI's a reasonable choice?

You can create a custom search for google that doesnt use AI
and just uses a regular web search

add a new search engine and give it a name like google web
add the following code

https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14

and then set that search as the default

now when you search you wont get an AI results

works with firefox or chromium

Try using Searxng

You can get results from google, ddg etc
and the advantage is direct urls in the results with no tracking code like google and bing

Pagination for the search results which you dont get with ddg

You can download the results as csv, json or get an rss feed
no javascript

you can use the json output with other program
like curl

I have a project called freebsd-nixpkgs
which use's the nix package manager in a podman container

it also uses home-manager and flakes
which mean you can update searxng using a flake and home manger

instead of destroying the container and rebuilding it every time you want to upgrade
