Advice as to a port that is like signal-desktop

I do not know of a BSD supported app (LIKE) but much less cumbersome to install than the likes of signal-desktop, Skye, etc. . . Just a straight forward program that will allow my long-time Vietnam friend and me to see one another after all those decades have passed. He has just joined the BSD tribe, and I've been his support, for getting a desktop up. We both would enjoy stories about our life now that both of us have lost our wives/soulmates. FaceTime is okay if both parties live in the Apple Garden. Anyway, thanks and enjoy your time with family and friends during the holidays.

I have no experience with it myself, but I've heard other FreeBSD enthusiasts mention using a project called Jitsi for videoconferencing. It looks to be mentioned on the FreeBSD wiki, here:

There look to be a few different FreeBSD ports that have to do with Jitsi.

I have carried out installing as per pkg install jitsi-meet-full . And cp the files as requested. Now, after trying to create a launcher, I'm not having any success. Maybe I need to reboot and try again or is there another procedure I need to follow?

I have used Jitsi from the browser. Is it suitable for your needs, or do you prefer non-browser-based solutions?

Element <https://matrix.org/ecosystem/clients/element/> includes a browser option.

In the column to the right, there's support for Voip 1to1 and Voip Jitsi.

In the Element Web/Desktop room, I asked:

Basics. Does "Voip Jitsi" … mean that video calls are supported?

as long as you're using Jitsi to do them, yes.
