It depends on what version you are running and what you are trying to do.
You need to provide the information about what versions you are actually running.

on 2026-10-10 the Quarterly REPOS was upgrade to packages for 15.1.
15.0 is now EOL ,

Comment out any commands in /boot/loader.conf and /etc/rc.conf that start graphic desktop environment.
REBOOT

You should then follow this instruction first.

https://www.freebsd.org/releases/15.1R/upgrading/

then run

# pkg upgrade

to upgrade your installed packages and graphics drivers.

( note: that the installed graphics drivers for 15.0 most likely will not work until upgraded. )

then re-enable your graphic desktop startup commands

I tried following the above instructions on how to upgrade to 15.1, and I cannot successfully upgrade even if my life depeneded on it. Either my Nvidia drivers get replaced with another set of drivers which leave me at a black screen, or I encounter some of a kernel panic immediately after the boot menu, which then causes my system to reboot after fifteen seconds. Unfortunately I'm stuck at 15.0 for the next few days, but I think that I need to start thinking about doing a complete reinstall using the ISO for 15.1, or I may have simply retreat from FreeBSD for a while. I guess I had better sleep on it before I make any decisions.
