Suggestion on port for file sync

hmm, I've not heard of this. It looks like it might also solve another problem I have... to keep mirrors of my static web assets in sync.

Suggestion on port for file sync

You may be on to something with the version control. In this specific case, that would be a plus. I could make the edits outside the server, a daemon could constantly poll for changes on version control, download the new file, and reload the service.

Suggestion on port for file sync

The hook is a nice to have. I can write a monitor to reload the appropriate service to re-read the file.

Suggestion on port for file sync

I need to be able to synchronize changes for a specific file (and in another implementation a directory) between multiple servers running FreeBSD. The file should be updated as soon as it's changed on any one of the servers. It does not need to occur synchronously, but file...

Solved Single drive data integrity improvement setting copies=2?

For me personally, given my experiences on using ZFS on Virtual Machines (I've had many ZFS pools in guests fail due improper host shutdown). I set copies to more than one from now on. For data that's really important, I create two virtual volumes, and if possible keep them on different data...

UFS Recover or Extract files from badly damaged UFS

Found a backup copy. Turns out it's much older than I thought (time flies). It's from 2013 (unless there's another somewhere), so I doubt I can reproduce the problem. It has the info I needed, so the importance of recovering stuff from the damaged copy has decreased to probably zero. I...

UFS Recover or Extract files from badly damaged UFS

12.4 to 13.2 I booted off a 13.2 ISO and ran fsck. I have not tried current.

UFS Recover or Extract files from badly damaged UFS

I did take a copy a few months ago., but I doubt I can use that version to reproduce this problem.

    Solved Editing Config Files

I think such a tool to edit /boot/loader.conf would be useful in the base system and should probably be included. My philosophy around that is, if there is a file format that the base system uses, then it's got the tooling to parse it programmatically in it's native format. Therefore there...

UFS Recover or Extract files from badly damaged UFS

I was concerned of that being a possibility. I've had that problem in the past where there was a bad RAID controller on one of the other machines (that wasn't very much fun). I've run an fsck in single user mode yesterday and today on a few other VM's on the same hypervisor and data store...

UFS Recover or Extract files from badly damaged UFS

I made a mistake and forgot to run fsck before doing a freebsd-update upgrade. Turns out the filesystem had some corruption and the vast amount of writes to it by freebsd-update made things even worse, so bad that it no longer mounts. For some reason more than one file system is damaged, and...

Two ZFS on root pools of the same name

I ran into a strange situation. I have a system that had an old FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE installation on one drive (ada1). This is a ZFS on root with the pool named "FreeBSD". It's a BIOS type boot setup on a GPT disk. I'm not on the system now, but it's layout is something like: => 40...

    pcengines replacement

Update on my adventures: The Protectli are good alternatives. I have 3 of them running OPNsense, no issues to date. Would recommend without hesitation. They are easy to reach out for when you need help, and they are knowledge people. Other than a small glitch with one of the devices not...

Trying to setup net/mpd5 PPTP VPN Server behind NAT

For $REASONS I must run a PPTP VPN server, alternatives such as OpenVPN, etc are not an option in this very specific use case. Is it possible to run a PPTP server with net/mpd5 behind a NAT? If so, what am I missing? I have added the firewall rules to my router: Also the port forwarding...

    pcengines replacement

Just noticed today that PC Engines is now calling it quits. My two go to hardware makers (Sokeris and PC Engines) are now gone. Purchased two units from Protectli with OPNsense preloaded to evaluate. Hoping this new hardware maker is a good replacement.

Share USB Device over Network with socat

Actually the opposite is true in my use case (in my opinion at least). It's a perfectly valid situation: Rather than have the Yubikey attached to one of the USB ports on the hypervisor in a separate room, the key remains with me. There is less chance that the key gets attached to the wrong VM...

    pcengines replacement

Those Aaeon network appliances look very nice. One of the rack-mount ones could be a worthy replacement to my aging Sokeris net6501 when the time comes.
