Touchpad is not recognized on Lenovo Ideapad 330S-14IKB

So, this is a little late, but I wound up here more than once. You can get the touchpad to work using the information at D16698 mentioned above. It will not build on 13.0-CURRENT or 12-STABLE at present. However, it will build on 12-RELEASE and 12.1-PRERELEASE. If you decide to apply the...

E17 with ecomorph and ecomp on FreeBSD

Current Stable version of E17 is now in the ports tree, thanks to the hard work of Grzegorz Blach. Ecomp/Ecomorph should get committed soon hopefully. Please reply to this thread if you wind up testing them, the Ecomp/Ecomorph ports that is.

    Notebook / Laptop compatibility list

Toshiba Satellite C655D. Works for me with no issues. I had to make the changes outlined in this post, however.

    How is monitor brightness controlled?

Yeah, I just noticed that. It looks like acpi backlight controls are not available at the moment. See here. The message mentions using dcdbas SMI interface. I don't know how the author has gotten it to work, dcdbas is part of libsmbios which is part of a Dell kernel module for Linux. I wish...

    How is monitor brightness controlled?

There is no Toshiba specific module for amd64 either, I am aware of toshiba_acpi, but it does not work on amd64 for me. The acpi_video module does work, and that is all I am using. I do not have any of the other hotkeys, i.e volume. I believe the problem is being caused by the Optimus...

    Notebook / Laptop compatibility list

Try setting the following in /boot/device.hintshint.psm0.flags="0x2000" This flag sets the bit that triggers HOOKRESUME which sends data to the mouse to wake it up. Other values are "0x6000" which triggers both HOOKRESUME and INITAFTERSUSPEND,(this will wake up the mouse and re-initialize it)...

    HAL automount issues

Every time I try to automount a USB drive with HAL I receive the error Can't mount device /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_0D0A_79E4/media/0D0A-79E4 org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.InvalidMountOption The option 'uid=1001' is not allowed for uid=1001 For whatever reason, I cannot get...

no sound in FreeBSD 9-Stable (amd)

Can you boot in verbose mode, and then execute the command dmesg | grep hdac and paste the resulting ouput here? One thing that you can try in the mean time, to get sound up and running is to play with the sysctl oid hw.snd.default_unit for example:# sysctl hw.snd.default_unit=x where x is a...

    How is monitor brightness controlled?

Try selecting a different keyboard model in Systemsettings -> Input Devices -> Keyboard. I did not see your specific Dell listed, but I did see an option for a generic Dell layout. You might have to play around with it. I do not have a Dell so I can't say for sure, mine just worked when I...

The "ultimate" FreeBSD laptop (in 2012)

I don't have a ThinkPad, but I do have a Toshiba C655D, and I can tell you that everything that you have listed works with a little tinkering. Some caveats: The CPU is an AMD64, so there is no C3 state unless you fiddle with the event timers. I have done this, but changed back to the default...

    Shutdown monitor/power saving?

You can usually control this via the window manager that you are using. And you can also enable DPMS via xorg.conf in the Monitor sectionSection "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor 0" VendorName "your vendor name goes here" ModelName "Your model name goes here" Option "DPMS" EndSection

    autogen.sh and configure

The package will not build without the offending lines in 'Makefile.am'. I am considering contacting the author of the software for more information/help with this. I have actually finished the ports using the repackaged distfiles, and submitted a PR, the idea being if anything changes based...

E17 with ecomorph and ecomp on FreeBSD

Testing on FreeBSD 9.0-STABLE amd64, FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE amd64, FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE i386, FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE amd64 is completed. It works for me on these architectures and platforms.

    autogen.sh and configure

SirDice, Thank You for taking the time to help me out with this. USE_GMAKE=yes has been set from the start, I knew that I would have to use GNU make to build this. I think that some aspects of Makefile.am are malformed, as the line pointed to by the previously listed error contains '%' signs...

E17 with ecomorph and ecomp on FreeBSD

All right the ports are finished. For patches see here. I need to test these ports on FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE amd64 and FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE i386. If I have time I will test it on 8.3-RELEASE for amd64.

    autogen.sh and configure

Already there. Now I am getting the error: Makefile.am:19: `%'-style pattern rules are a GNU make extension *** Error code 1 which is puzzling to me, as I passed the --gnu flag to automake.
